And everyone else can extend their lives by getting exercise too. Youth are getting less exercise than youth got in the past. And if they do not start exercising more during their lifetimes they are at much greater risk for early death.

The study was published by the Journal of the American Medical Association and gives hope particularly to obese people as they age. If they can just get enough exercise they can extend their lives, even if they do not lose much weight.

What is sad about aging people is that they sometimes lose reasons to live any longer. They retreat into a sedentary lifestyle. They may not exercise much and they may not even get out much.

They do not have their career anymore and their children are grown up. They may lose sight of the wonders and beauty of life. They may lose hope and surrender to the end.

But there are many benefits of exercise beyond just the avoidance of disease. Exercise increases energy, self-esteem, and mental focus. It does not take away energy but gives energy.

And someone who exercises feels better about themselves emotionally with higher self-esteem. And mental acuity is something some lose when they age. Exercise is known to preserve the sharpness of the mind.

Strength, stamina, and endurance are increased by regular exercise. But there are even more emotional benefits. A person who exercises regularly will avoid depression due to the release of endorphins into the bloodstream.

Exercise is also known to alter the mood of people experiencing stress. Stress can linger with you, but when you exercise stress will pass away. And exercise helps you sleep better and helps digestion among the many other benefits.

Ways to Prevent Holiday Weight Gain

Obesity has worldwide problem. In fact, almost 2/3 of Americans need to lose weight and over 1 billion people in the world are overweight. If you are overweight, you need to lose weight and improve your health and fitness. And yes, this can still be done over the holiday season. Don't wait for New Year's day to start your weight loss resolutions.

Everyone deserves to indulge in holiday treats. Part of the fun of the holiday season is the amazing treats that are only around at Christmas and/or Thanksgiving.

Eat slow: Eat slowly and savor every bite of the food you do eat; that way, it would be easier for you to kill the junk food cravings and eventually you would end up eating a lot less junk foods than usual! Experts say that our brain takes at least twenty minutes to realize that we are full. If you eat too fast then you are not giving your brain a fighting chance to know whether you need to eat anymore or not! Consequently you would end up eating a lot more food than you really need to!

Don't go to that party hungry! Have a half of a turkey sandwich, spoonful of natural peanut butter or handful of nuts or maybe a piece of fruit before that party, especially the late one's. You'll be much less likely to overeat and do some serious damage.

So you have been dieting for weeks and your belly is not reducing as fast as you would like; what steps can you take to accelerate your weight loss. The first thing you need to do is increase the amount of aerobic exercise that you are undertaking, this can be anything from jogging around town to a full blown gym workout. Whatever you choose, always make sure you consult a physician prior to beginning to make certain that your exercise program is not going to be detrimental to your healthy.

The first step is to ensure that you have warmed up and stretched adequately, doing this at the beginning and end of your exercise session will reduce the amount of lactic acid that builds up in your muscles thereby reducing your stiffness the next day. So for the first month start with twenty minutes of exercise that increases your heart rate and gets you pink in the face. You should try to do this at least three times a week in order to get the maximum benefit from your exercise.

Now if your aim is to lose belly fat you may wish to arrange you program so that the best exercise to lose belly fat are incorporated into each session. There are a variety of exercises which you can implement into your program that will help tone your stomach. The basic stomach crunch is the first and is where you lie on your back, it is best to use an ab roller for this which can be purchased at any sports outlet. Obviously if you are a member of a gym, they will have ab rollers or sit up benches to use. So lie back with your back flat on the floor and grip the ab roller with each arm, now using your stomach muscles raise your back off the ground to no more than 30 degrees; hold position for a second then return to your starting position. Try to do this twenty times, take a minutes rest then repeat four times so that you total number of crunches is 80 (20 crunches x 4 with a minute break in between). Eventually after you have been doing stomach crunches for a month you should increase the amount so that you do 30 crunches four times. I found that after a couple of months I managed to do 300 stomach crunches and my stomach began to look and feel flatter. There are other exercise that you can incorporate into your fitness program however the standard stomach crunch has and always will be the most beneficial.

How to Burn Fat & Develop a Lean Body Without "Fancy(and expensive)" Equipment

Don't have the fancy workout equipment at home? Can't afford a costly gym membership? Well, if you want to burn fat and develop a lean, toned body you really do not need either one.

I'm going to show you an example today of one of my favorite training routines that doesn't include that costly gym membership(if you do have a membership, you can do this in the gym as well) or a need for any of those crazy gadgets you see advertised on TV.

Have a look:

1. Prisoner squats
2. Push-ups
3. Alternating Lunges
4. Mountain climbers
5. Pull-ups
6. Sprawl/tuck jump combo

I don't like to worry about counting reps or "how many sets/reps should I do." So, I do most of my workouts using timed intervals. Use a stop watch or cooking timer and set it for 1 minute. Complete 1 minute of each exercise listed above(one after another) without rest. That equals one round. After each round rest 1 minute, then complete the whole circuit again. Do 3-5 rounds.

Prisoner squats are done with your feet a little wider than shoulder width and hands on head. Squat down, pushing your hips back, weight on your heels as you drop as deep as you can go. Repeat for 1 minute. For the advanced -> do 1 leg squats, 30 seconds on right, 30 seconds on left.

Push-ups are push-ups. Beginners start on your knees. Advanced can use a Stability Ball, Medicine ball or anything else to make it more challenging.

Alternating lunges are done with your hands on your head. Take a step forward with your left leg. Knees and hips should be bent at 90 degrees.Your back knee should not hit the ground. Repeat with right leg for 1 minute alternating between the two. Advanced can add external resistance like dumbbells, kettlebells or a weight bar.

For mountain climbers start in a push-up position(top of push-up) then shuffle your feet in and out so that your knees are moving in to your chest and then back to starting position. Shuffle your hands 8-10 inches forward & back in addition to the leg movements, for the more advanced.

Pull-ups are pull-ups. If you can't perform a pull-up or you are working out at home and don't have a pull-up bar, substitute in some type of rowing motion. It could be dumbbell/barbell bent over rows or standing rows with a resistance band.

The sprawl/tuck jump combo => start on your stomach, explode up to your feet and jump into the air, bringing your knees to your chest. Once you hit the ground, sprawl back on your stomach and repeat the jump.

This will give you one heck of a workout without needing any major equipment and can be done just about anywhere! Not only is this a total body, fat burning workout but it will NOT have you spending all your time training! Four heart pumping rounds is less than 30 minutes!!

With so many options for weight loss, what's the best diet for you? You can choose a diet which offers personal interaction, or if you're pressed for time, choose a "fast" system which you manage on your own.

Let's look at some of the choices you have.

1. Personal Interaction Diets Make You Accountable

There are many personal interaction diets. For example both Weight Watchers and Jenny Craig are personal interaction diets. When you signed up for these diets you need to go to meetings.

The social interaction of these diets is very useful because it makes you accountable. If you know you're going to be weighed next Monday, you're less likely to pig out on Thursday. You know that there will be consequences for your actions.

The benefits of these diets is that you can be motivated by others' success and can get instant help for any challenges you're facing with your diet program. The downside of these diets however is that they take more time than other diets simply because you have to go to meetings. Although the meetings are short, when you include travel time, they account for a quite a bit of time.

2. Counting Diets: Low Calorie, or Low Carb?

3. Just Stop Eating: Intermittent Fasting

Weight Loss with Facial Exercise Means Your Face Doesn’t Have to Look Older

Poor Valerie Bertinelli.  Here she loses a great deal of weight, probably thirty pounds, maybe more, and instead of the media congratulating her on her new, svelte body, they are maligning her face, saying that she looks older now than she did two years ago when she still wore a size twelve. Facial exercise, not twists, puckers or contortions, is a safe and sane alternative for a healthier, younger looking face.  The exercises are painless, there is no risk and you look like you did ten to fifteen years ago.

Losing weight means that your face will lose weight too.  Volume as unwanted pounds is shed throughout the entire body when a person loses weight. 

There is really no such thing as "spot" reducing as in 'I will only lose weight in my waist, tummy, hips and thighs,' so as you put away mounds of carrots, broccoli and organic lettuce leaves, just know that having a skinny body means you will have a skinny face.

If you experience weight loss in your thighs, you will also experience weight loss in your face.  Loss of volume in the face is especially noticeable as previous atrophy like slightly sagging cheeks now are actual lines or grooves between your nose and your mouth. 

Jowls and pouches also seem to form almost overnight as the pounds melt away.  You probably feel this is a very unfair scenario – losing weight to look better yet your face is losing the battle against aging.

There are hollows that can form along the sides of the cheeks when weight is lost quickly.  Sometimes hollows are thought to only plague those over 65 but if your weight has taken a sudden plunge, you might find your skin acting in ways you have never seen.

Fat surrounds our muscles and our internal organs as it weaves and marbles throughout our bodies.  Fat nestles between our skin and body muscles. You may or may not know that it is very easy for our bodies to store fat; if we overeat and are under active, our bodies glom on to ingested calories. 

Most of us gals need only 1500-1800 calories per day to maintain our ideal weight; overeat and you outgrow your clothes as you become a candidate for obesity, Type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure issues and other health challenges.  In addition to watching our caloric intake we certainly need to include some type of physical activity to energize our bodies and to put the roses back in our cheeks.

When our faces show aging whether we have lost weight or not, there is sometimes great temptation to use extraneous methods to recapture our youthful appearance. 

Thinking that temporary injections that plump and paralyze will enhance your face may leave you feeling cold and offish.  Injections cost a lot of money and carry a certain amount of risk.  Oh sure, there will probably be redness or bruising at the injection site but if you choose to allow toxins and chemically altered cadaver material to be injected inside your body, you will first have to read and sign a very comprehensive disclosure that will absolutely let your practitioner off the hook if you have an adverse reaction.

Surgery is another avenue men and women consider when their face looks drawn and tired but if you stop and think about it carefully, cutting perfectly healthy muscle and skin, then draping it and suturing it into place may not be ideal either.  In fact, some people may think it is a barbaric practice and not in line with healthy alternatives; after all, it is surgery and surgery always carries risk like infection, disappointment and even death.

There are non-surgical alternatives and less invasive practices but not all of them produce the desired results of a younger looking face.

Facial exercise, not twists, puckers or contortions, is a safe and sane alternative for a healthier, younger looking face.  The exercises are painless, there is no risk and you look like you did ten to fifteen years ago.

Facial exercise that uses resistance training is likened to weight training.  When you train your body with weights, the muscles sculpt, tone, tighten and reposition.

Just as exercise works for the body, exercise will work for the face.  Using white exercise gloves to hold and anchor tiny facial muscles, the facial exercises quickly work to enhance the face by engaging the muscles hidden under the skin. 

Most users see immediate results when using isometric facial exercise with resistance although in the beginning the results are not long lasting because the muscle needs sufficient strength training to hold the new look.  After a few weeks of training, the face begins to lose the tired, drawn look as muscles and skin become revitalized with oxygenated blood.

Learning the techniques is easy, the steps are simple and the results are stunning.

Cardio Workout Plan - A Surprising Way to Burn Fat Faster

Anyone trying to get in shape or lose body fat, consider it a "fact" that they need "cardio workout routines" to accomplish these goals. I Am going to show you why you never have to do any traditional cardio to lose weight.

Some of the leanest and meanest people I know (men and women), NEVER do any type of normal or traditional cardio. Jogging,treadmill etc. When you hear cardio, what do you think of? Most people think cardio is working out on the treadmill,stationary bike, or maybe the elliptical machine. Well this is cardio but what I call "traditional cardio exercise routine".

Cardio is ANY type of exercise that strengthens the heart muscles, improve respiration, provide muscle tone and increases bodily energy and endurance. To clarify, it's any thing that gets your heart pumping.

Pick up some weights and started doing some reps and you will feel your heart going if you have a weight that challenges you, you are conditioning your heart. Don't think because its weight training that it's not a cardio workout routine. If you lift light weights, lift them properly, and take very few breaks during the workout, you will get an excellent cardiovascular workout and also build muscle.

Here are a few examples of good cardio workouts to name a few...

Clean and press exercises, kettle bell swings, try 20 reps of one arm swings, or two arm swings or dumb bell step ups. How about trying 5 minutes straight of rotating body weight squats, lunges, and pushups with very little rest between. Notice your heart pounding and sweat pouring off of you. I go into more detail about these exercises on my website. It needs to be intense with with very little rest between sets.

It doesn't matter if you are lifting 250 pounds or just the bar bell at 45 pounds. If you are getting your heart rate up its working. Once you do these you won't be saying that it is not conditioning your heart. Most people you see at the gyms and going steady on the cardio machines, many watching TV and reading magazines. Let's get serious, if you can read or watch TV while doing any exercise then your not focused enough on what your doing not to mention probably not working out hard enough to see any results.

Look around your gym, find the people that have fit, sculpted bodies; I bet you won't them see spending endless hours on the treadmills but most likely you will see them lifting weights. Don't get me wrong cardio machines do have their benefits if done properly BUT if you want to burn fat and get that sculpted body then lifting weights is vital.

These styles of a cardio workout routines will save you time and strengthen and condition every major muscle in your body. Muscle burns fats so build more muscle and burn more fat. This sure beats long boring exercises on the treadmill.

Its now March, summer is just around the corner, and you want to get that body of yours prepared for the the sun and even beaches if your going on holiday this summer, but what more better way to prepare than finding out the best exercise to lose belly fat. Well, sorry to say, there is no one magical, fat blasting, underground or secret formula to losing body fat, however, combined with the right diet and the correct workouts then you can start to burn away that excess belly fat and start to harden and flatten that tummy of yours, now I've come across many a tummy exercise in my past, but you see the best results are always gained by those who put in the most effort, the more effort and dedication you show to a workout plan and diet plan, the more fat you burn and the bigger the gains.

Now there is this big misconception about crunches, many people believe doing 200-300 crunches a day will lose that belly fat, well, it will help you strengthen and maintain muscle mass and core stability in the abdominal area, but it won't help that much, its certainly not the best exercise to lose belly fat.

So what is the best tummy exercise...There isn't one! That's right, no 1 exercise is going to lose you belly fat, simple fact. A majority of people will answer no. Riding A Bike - Riding a bicycle is a great way to burn belly fat, this is because some people (including me) have joint problems and high impact exercises such as running has too much of an impact, so cycling is a great benefit and would fall into the best exercise to lose belly fat category if we had one.

Walking - Yes, that's right, walking can in fact help you lose belly fat, now you have to walking at a fast enough pace to raise your heart rate and not taking a stroll, but this is a great way for those beginning to exercise can get used to going long distances, and is also low impact on joints so for those with joint problems but want to begin training can find this a useful tool. This is one surprising exercise that would fall into the best exercise to lose belly fat category if we had one.

As a fitness professional, I create fast, fat loss workouts for many people, especially for those "on the go", busy types. Some of my programs are just shy of 15 minutes in length for effective, overall fat blasting workout. But what about fast food options? If you need a fast, restaurant choice that's healthy, what can you do?

Have you ever noticed how difficult it is to stick with the "healthy" eating part after the exercise ends or when outside the home??

Here are a few things you can do for you time crunched eaters on the go:

- Menu Highlights. I keep a variety of menus from restaurants (I make photo copies of my favorite ones) all over the city. I have healthy meals highlighted in various colors. Blue highlight color for my healthy vegetarian meals and yellow for all others. I know what to order in seconds when I need decide it's takeout.

- Veggies Slice And Dice. I have an array of translucent contains that I pack wit fruits and veggies cut up and portioned out. I prepare this as soon as I get them home from the farmer's market. This is a great energy pick up alternative snack to candy bars.

- One Served Bags. For dried goods such as popcorn or pretzels, place them in plastic bags already portioned out based.

- Get Top Levels. If you open up your fridge, make sure all the healthy, lighter foods are on the top-level shelf. Make healthy foods easily accessible. Hide or get rid of unsupportive foods or put them in your veggie drawers away from site.

- Get Measurable. Go to Container store or where they sell measuring bowl sets with markings for easy monitoring. You can eat out of these containers to keep your food journal notes.
