Lose Belly Fat Fast by Avoiding These 3 Common Mistakes

My client, Dana, came in for her weekly weigh in and body fat test. Based on the fat loss program that I had prescribed to her, I was confidently expecting at least a 4 pound reduction of body fat, followed immediately by an ear to ear smile on her face.

Unfortunately, when the results were in, Dana was faced with only a ½ pound of fat loss and I was faced with the close up view of her eyes welling up with tears. Needless to say, Dana was not a happy camper. With the tears beginning to roll down her face, Dana turned towards me and proclaimed vehemently, "I can't believe this! Only ½ pound? I did everything right all week."

I've been a fat loss coach for over 16 years, and my experience and intuition were telling me that Dana had made some dietary mistakes. She assured me that she hadn't, but I had my doubts. So I asked her to write down everything she had eaten during the last several days. After reviewing her food journal, I could easily see why her fat loss results were miniscule.

Dana had made a critical and all too common mistake. She had taken healthful foods and ate them in their unhealthy forms. To clarify what I'm talking about, let's use broccoli as an example. Broccoli is an extremely healthy food when eaten in its natural form but once you melt a glob of cheddar cheese on top of it, it becomes something completely different.

I'm going to list the mistakes that Dana had made in an attempt to prevent you from making the same ones. These errors may seem minor, but they can sabotage your fat loss efforts faster than you can possibly imagine!

Shake recommendation- As a convenient meal replacement, I often recommend a protein shake for a mid-morning or mid-afternoon meal. These shakes are quick to prepare and are portable.

Although I did specify what brand Dana should use, she decided to ignore me, since in her mind, the brand wouldn't affect her fat loss to a significant degree. Instead, she would walk across the street from her office building and purchase a delicious smoothie from a trendy smoothie cafe every day. After reading this cafe's menu, I certainly saw why the temptation got the best of her. They had the coolest flavors! She had great tasty options, like chocolate banana gelato, mango kiwi twist and pineapple coconut blast.

There was a problem with this substitution. Even though the cafe only uses fresh and natural ingredients, the calories in these smoothies can add up in a hurry. For example, I had recommended that she mix her protein powder with water. The cafe, on the other hand, uses fruit juice instead of water. Fruit juice is basically pure sugar, and is never recommended on any effective fat loss plan. In addition to the fruit juice, each of these smoothies also contained several servings of actual fruit.

Not surprisingly, the cafe's menu conveniently "forgot" to list how many calories each smoothie contained. Out of curiosity, I took it upon myself to tally up each individual ingredient and figure out the caloric cost of each flavor. Can you believe that Dana's favorite flavor (mango kiwi twist) contained 765 calories? With this smoothie as part of her regular regimen, she is lucky she didn't gain weight during this week!

Take home lesson: Make your own shakes using the precise amount of the correct powder for you. Also, when trying to lose fat, always make your shakes with water.

Salad recommendation

How could you go wrong with a salad? Most people are in dire need of consuming more vegetables, right? That statement is 100% correct, but it's the salad toppings we could do without. In her defense, Dana was good about avoiding the obvious offenders (croutons, cheese, etc). Where she went wrong was with her dressing. She was using a "light" ranch dressing on her salad. She wasn't measuring the amount, because she assumed that since it was light it was okay to use liberally.

I made her bring in the bottle so I could read the label. In one week, she had used 90% of the entire bottle of dressing. I then calculated approximately how much she was using on each salad. To our surprise, Dana's dressing was adding 40 grams of fat to each salad.

Take home lesson: I recommend that you use olive oil and vinegar as your dressing. Always measure the amount of olive oil.

Fish recommendation

Dana was supposed to eat fish three times per week. She followed this recommendation...to a point. Her fish intake was in the form of her favorite sushi roll, spicy tuna. This roll contains fattening mayonnaise. Bad choice, Dana!

Take home lesson: Eat your fish grilled or broiled

And if you decide to eat your fish at your favorite sushi restaurant, try sashimi or sushi with brown rice. Watch the soy sauce, too, and NO mayo!!

Simple mistakes like these can seem rather innocent but can set up serious roadblocks during your fat loss journey. Don't make the same mistakes Dana did. Eat foods in their natural form, and watch your body fat disappear!

Over the years I have come across some of the best advice to help me on my journey toward discipline and a healthy body. Below, I would like to share with you some of the best advice ever!

At the top of the list, probably the best tip ever was...

(1) Break up your meals. Eat a portion at one sitting and one to two hours later eat the other half.

Why is that such good advice?

Where do I start?

First of all, you end up eating six times a day instead of three, your metabolism is constantly being jolted, because you are eating more often, you are never famished and the best best best part is you end up eating less.

How is that?

Well, think about it. When you eat three times a day, don't you usually have two or three snacks throughout the day?

Breaking up your meals actually cuts out snacking. You don't believe me? Give it a try.

(2) Make water your best friend. I can hear you saying right now, "but I hate the taste of water." You and a million other people. I'll tell you this. I used to hate drinking my coffee without sugar, but now I love it. I used to hate drinking tea without sugar, but now I love it and I used to hate hate hate green tea but now it's one of my best friends. AND I used to hate my boss, until I fell in love with him.

So what's my point?

The point is just because you don't like something today doesn't mean you won't one day like it. I speak from experience here. Of all the perks for consuming more water and there are many, one of the best best best reasons is because the more of it you drink, the less you desire sweetened beverages. And water makes you feel good and to me, feeling good is everything.

(3) Have a Plan B for your exercise program. I learned this a long time ago. There will always be days when you will not feel like following through on your exercise plan. Plan B is a form of negotiation between you and you. Here is what you do. Say you are committed to walking the treadmill for 40 minutes five days a week and you are going along smoothly until that one day--you are not in the mood for whatever reason, you had a bad day, you're crabby, angry, WHATEVER. Your Plan B says you will proceed with your workout, HOWEVER, you only have to do half. So instead of 40 minutes, you walk 20 minutes.

Why is this so important?

Because working out for 20 minutes instead of 0 minutes sets the tone for consistency and discipline. Do this long enough and exercise becomes as important as going to work.

(4) Fill up on green fiber-rich vegetables. Fiber really does fill you up. Did you know that it is possible to cut your calories by as much as 700 to 800 and not feel hungry, just by filling up with fiber. You don't believe me? Check out the book "Fiber35Diet." You will be amazed. I was too.

How to Lose Weight in 3 Weeks

If you want to go on a crash diet and lose a lot of weight in 3 weeks then you've come to the right place. Get the instructions you need to know, in this article.

First Do The Math

First we need to do the math. How much weight do you want to lose in 3 weeks?

Dieticians say that you can safely lose 2 pounds a week so that would mean that you can lose 6 pounds in 3 weeks.

To be honest, you can easily lose 3 pounds a week if it is only for 3 weeks. That would give you 9 pounds weight loss overall.

If you want to go with the normal option of 2 pounds a week, then you need to eat 1000 less calories per day. So your rough maximum daily limit is 1500 calories for a man and 1000 calories for a woman. If you go over that then you won't lose weight as fast as you want to.

Diet

This is absolutely key to losing weight quickly. If you eat too much then you've not no choice but to try and burn it off with exercise or you won't lose as much as you wanted to. I think it's much easier to eat less than to sweat it out needlessly.

First of all, I know this sounds obvious, but if you cut out the junk then you will already be more than half way towards your goal without even doing anything else. For 3 weeks, no takeouts, no candies, no chips, no fast food, no sugar.

If you get cravings then you should instead eat a lot of fruit. I highly recommend berries because they contain hardly any calories and yet they taste so good.

Exercise

This is entirely optional but is a great way of losing a little more weight and helping you towards your target. If you want to do the least exercise but get the most weight loss then follow these instructions.

Exercise in the morning before you've eaten. That way you'll burn only fat. Try to vary your speed of exercise between fast and incredibly fast (your maximum). If you alternate between the two speeds every 30 seconds then you'll only need to work out for 15 minutes.

I'm going to share with you some of my best fat loss techniques. It really isn't that hard to drop the weight from your body, the problem is that most people don't have the slightest clue on how to do it. They're full of misinformation that doesn't ever work, so they just stop trying.

Some of the worst advice I've heard on fat loss, just boils down to a very restrictive starvation like diet. Here's a clue, restrictive diets don't work. The reason is that your body thinks you're going into starvation, so it starts holding to all your fat reserves on the body. Since you need energy to get through the day, your body will start consuming vital organs, instead of fat. Onces your vital organs are pretty much destroyed, it will most onto the fat. It's just not a probable solution.

The key to a diet, is one that allows you to eat and it stimulates your metabolism so you burn more calories. I've found the simplest way of doing this is eating smaller meals more often. Your metabolism is tied to your digestive system, so if you're in a constant state of digestion, your metabolism will be burning very fast. For many people grilling and barbecue are synonymous. One great way to infuse a ton of flavor into barbecue cuts of meat such as ribs without adding in tons of fat is to coat them generously with a dry rub. A dry rub is a mixture of spices that you coat the meat with prior to cooking. Since it lacks the fat of many barbecue sauces it is a great, healthy way to add tremendous flavor to your meat. 4 teaspoons paprika

2 teaspoons salt

Lose Weight The Safe Way

After having been to the doctor for a physical check up you have to take the advice you are given seriously.

A realistic approach is a must when you decide to venture out on a weight/fitness program.

I remember when I went out on my first lose weight/fitness program I had high and mighty ideas about becoming a perfect physical specimen and I thought I would have it all in the bag within a few months, I even thought I would have every girl down my road chasing me after a few months on the program I joined but it soon dawned on me that things were not looking as I has originally envisioned.

There were no girls chasing me and there were no signs of me looking like I thought I would look after a few months . I was on all kinds of diets and trying all kinds of methods in or to lose weight, I was even going to the gym to work out each and every evening for two months solid but for some reason I was just unable to keep it all going. I found myself drained mentally and physically and I had no idea why, until someone told me that I was doing it all wrong, that I was running before I could walk , I was so desperate to lose weight and be fit at this time that I recall even arguing about the matter with my friend , I didn't listen to him until I actually physically hurt myself during an exercise one evening and it was only then that I realise that what he said was true.

I was running before I could walk, I was over weight and I was desperate, so desperate that I even shone my best friend's advice.

The reason I am telling you what happened to me during my desperate attempt to lose weight because I want you to see how easily I was led to do stupid things in all the wrong and stupid ways and all because I got desperate to look good and feel good again, and all because I never took the right advice in the first place!

Always listen and seek advice before you jump into some crazy scheme to do with losing weight and fitness as you can do yourself great harm and lose friends along the way for having been so desperate.

Trying to Lose weight and trying to keep fit can be very demanding even for the fittest, so what ever your goal is always take it little by little, little by little can be a surprisingly fast way to obtain your goal.

Here are seven of the simpler ways water can help you lose weight:

1. Water helps you lose weight by making you feel full. We all stop eating when we're full - even if someone offers us one of our favorite foods. If your stomach is full, you don't eat; and, if your stomach is full of something that has no calories, then you aren't gaining weight. Unless you're dead, you are losing weight if you aren't gaining it. Unneeded calories adds unwanted weight; changing the way you address your cravings changes the amount of calories you put into your body. Eating when you are actually thirsty will help you gain weight; so, it naturally follows that, if you drank water when you were thirsty - instead of eating a snack - your body isn't receiving something it can store or burn, so it has to use fuel it already has onboard.

3. Water quenches your thirst. Besides the fact that people eat when they are thirsty, and water turns-off that impulse; people also drink sodas, and other fattening beverages when they are thirsty. If you are drinking enough water, it will be difficult to continue guzzling those sugar-and-chemical-laden beverages. And, if you stop drinking sugar, you will probably lose some weight.

4. Water flushes toxins from your system. This is a simple matter of common sense; if you don't pee, stuff stays inside you. If you don't drink water, you don't pee. Not all scientists and doctors say the same thing; so you really need to follow your own intuition on all things medical. Water is a fluid; but your body isn't simply made of "mostly fluid." Your body is made of mostly water - Hydrogen and Oxygen. You are an electric entity; you need Hydrogen and Oxygen - not simply random liquids. People who don't drink enough water often think they are supposed to feel sluggish, and that their urine is supposed to have that color and odor... You're not, and it's not; those are actually signs of dehydration you just aren't reading properly.

5. Water increases metabolism. There is a significant thermogenic effect from drinking at least 500ml of water. With no caloric value to "pay for" the energy created as a direct result of drinking water, the body must use it's own fuel stores to heat and process the water you consume.

6. Water Hydrates you. Being hydrated improves digestive function, and every part of your overall health picture. Being dehydrated can put your body in the stress response - which causes your body to produce stress hormones such as cortisol (the hormone responsible for helping your body convert and store undigested food as fat). Hydrated cells are healthy cells; a healthy body is made of healthy cells.

7. Water can be used as a Placebo. Drinking water for any of the reasons listed above could be effective at helping you lose weight for no other reason than you (1.) Think or Believe that drinking water could produce a certain effect; and, (2.) You actually drink water as directed for the prescribed purpose. In other words, placebo studies have shown that people who are given a "remedy" with no known curative properties often benefit simply because they believe they should. So, if you drink water because you believe it has weight-loss benefits, you have increased your chances of experiencing the benefit you seek. Sterile water is often used as a placebo in medical trials; and water has actually cured "incurable" and potentially fatal conditions when used as a remedy in a clinical or therapeutic setting. Placebos show us that it really is "the thought that counts."

No matter what your reasons for drinking water, you need to drink it; this is simply a matter of common-sense if you want to maintain a healthy body and live a healthy, happy life. But, if you seriously consider water as a weight-loss tool, implement, or technique for losing weight, then you are going to find at least the same results you'd achieve with any other weight-loss plan - without harmful side effects. But, most likely, you'll notice profound changes in your health, life, and body within a few days of simply drinking an adequate amount of water for your body and your level of activity. You don't have to do anything crazy or extreme; just drink enough water to keep yourself properly hydrated and see what happens.

5 Ways to Lose Weight For Good!

So, you've been dieting and training. Dieting and training. You lose 20 lbs. and gain it back. You lose 10 lbs. and gain it back. It is so frustrating, isn't it? I know, because I was stuck in the same situation most of my life.

A few months ago I saw the scale move back up...again. I decided that enough was enough. This is when I started spending countless hours researching and studying the reasons why people can lose weight and gain it back faster than they lost it. I will tell you that the biggest problem is that people lose weight so quickly that their metabolism doesn't have time to adjust, therefore, as soon as you miss a few days of your routine that weight comes right back. Then, you lose confidence, and you lose hope. You start thinking that you are destined to be overweight, and there's nothing you can do about it. For me, these feelings and thoughts were just a way of motivating me to figure out a way to beat the odds.

I now want to quickly outline 5 things you can start doing to help you lose weight and keep it off. Also, I'd like to tell you that if you're serious about losing weight, improving your health, and enhancing your physical appearance, all it takes is dedication to your goals. Ok, here is the list:

1. Start drinking water every day! I know it's gross, and I know it doesn't seem to fill you up. But the fact of the matter is that drinking at least 64 oz. of water a day will increase your metabolism. As your metabolism increases your body will start becoming a fat burning furnace. Also, drinking at least 64 oz. of water a day will start flushing out harmful toxins that make their way into your system everyday. This will greatly improve your day to day health and energy levels.

2. Start eating 6 meals a day of smaller portions. Monday through Saturday allow yourself to eat 6 meals of healthy food of 300-400 calories each meal. Then, on Sunday at in a "snack" meal to reward yourself.

3. Start exercising at 3 days a week for 45 minutes at a time. It doesn't matter if you run, walk, swim, lift weights, stretch, etc. Anything will work. This is another way of increasing your metabolism.

4. Start taking a daily multivitamin. Go to your local drugstore, Wal-mart, whatever, and pick up a multivitamin supplement. They are inexpensive, and highly effective in increasing your body's ability to burn fat.

5. Start trying to get at around 7 1/2 hours of sleep per night. This might mean that you have to work a little harder to get things done in your day. But the metabolic benefits of a good night's sleep are unbelievable.
