That is where it's at. Affirmations, visualization, The Law Of Attraction etc will not work if there are counter intentions in your subconscious mind.
In fact, what I have found is that when you release the subconscious blocks to losing the weight you want, affirmations and visualizing what you want all the time becomes unnecessary and heading towards your ideal weight becomes much more natural rather than something you have to force to make happen.
Here's another scenario: Have you ever made a New Years Resolution to lose weight only to get back to your current habits six weeks later? So have I. We make a goal to lose X amt of pounds and then we find it really hard to keep going.
That wall that we hit upon is called subconscious resistance. It is like driving with the brake on. In any area of your life that requires will power and effort and struggle, you are coming up against a wall of resistance.
Unfortunately, the movie The Secret didn't talk about this. Dissolving subconscious blocks, especially resistance, is paramount to losing the weight or for anything you want in life for that matter.
There are various methods that teach you how to let go of resistance on the spot. Once we let go of our resistance to eating well, to exercising etc., doing these things become effortless.
Obviously, action is required, but that action becomes effortless in the sense that we are taking off the brake and just hitting the gas so we easily move in the direction we want.
Letting go of the garbage in your subconscious mind is the real secret to losing weight...or anything else for that matter.
This may be the first time you have heard this because if everyone knew this secret, the multimillion-dollar weight loss industry would go bankrupt!

Losing Weight

The food that you eat will contain a certain number of calories. You will need a certain amount of calories to maintain your bodyweight as it stands at the present time. This is called your maintenance level.
If the amount of calories that you consume goes over your maintenance level, then you will put on more weight. If the amount of calories that you consume goes under your maintenance level, then you will lose weight.
In theory it sounds a simple and straightforward method towards losing weight. However things are never as simple as they appear. Weight loss can be a bit more complex, if it wasn't then nobody would be overweight.
The first thing that you have to know is that not all calories are created equal. A gram of protein and a gram of carbohydrates each contain 4 calories. A gram of fat on the other hand contains 9 calories. When you check on food labels as to the amount of fat that is contained, always remember the amount of calories which are coming from fat.
Another thing to keep in mind is that certain types of calories are more prone to be stored as fat than others. Especially calories that are consumed from foods that contain high levels of sugar. So it's not just a question of how many calories you eat, but what types of calories you eat.
While it's true that cutting back on calories will help you lose a certain amount of weight. What you need to consider is the quality of weight that you are losing and not just the quantity. Weight, just like calories comes in different forms. If you lost a limb in an accident, you will have lost some weight. However this would not be the type of weight you would be happy losing.

However if you are trying to lose weight, you will reach your goal quicker if you do some form of resistance training (weight training).
Fat can be very stubborn to shift and nobody is more aware of that than you. The key to losing fat and holding onto muscle, apart from a healthy diet, is to have a good exercise programme. A good mix of cardiovascular and resistance training is the perfect cocktail. Cardiovascular training will help you burn fat and resistance training will help you to keep your muscle weight.
You may be under the impression that resistance training will consist of grunting and groaning with heavy weights in gym full of steroid injecting hulks. This is not the reality of the situation. All you need to do is to focus on what is going to be challenging for you. Don't be concerned about how much weight you use; as long as it's working your muscles and you are feeling it, then you are doing it right.
If you only do cardiovascular exercise you will lose some weight. However because you are losing muscle as well, it can leave your body looking loose and flabby. Using a weight training routine will result in your body becoming firmer and more toned, not to mention the benefits f becoming stronger.
As for your diet, it will not just be a question of what you eat but when you eat. This is a hugely important issue that is at times overlooked.
Your body is designed in such a way that it is only capable of using a certain amount of food at any given time. How much your body can use depends on the life you lead. If you are very active your body will be able to assimilate more food. If however you are not active your body will only use a certain amount of food and store the rest as fat.
The mistake many people make when they are trying to lose weight is that they often cut back on the amount of meals that they eat. Most people will often cut down to 1 or 2 meals a day and sometimes one of those meals will contain more calories than their bodies will be able to use. On top of this, leaving long gaps between meals slows down your metabolism resulting in fewer calories being burned.
Most people trying to lose weight unknowingly do everything that will prevent them from losing weight on a permanent basis. Because they will not get the results that they want by eating fewer meals less frequently, they give up trying to lose weight under the impression that they are not capable of doing so.
The secret is to eat small amounts of food more often. If your body is fed small amounts of food every 3 or 4 hours, your body will be able to use this food more effectively. Plus because you are getting a food intake on a regular basis, your metabolism will speed up knowing it is getting calories regularly and that it can afford to burn calories as it will be getting some more in a few hours.
Eating in this way not only speeds up your metabolism, it also allows your body to use the food that you eat in a way that it is happy with. Because you are eating smaller amounts there are no extra calories to be stored as fat.
Traditionally our last meal of the day also tends to be our biggest one. This can also be problematic when it comes to losing weight. Eating a large meal in the evening is counterproductive to weight loss, simply because you will be less active in the evening and will not burn off as many calories. So a fair amount of the food that you eat can be stored as fat.
If your biggest meal of the day was eaten in the morning or at lunch time, much of the calories would be used up through your daily activities. It can be difficult to change the eating habits of a lifetime, but if you are serious about losing weight then it has to be something that you must consider.
It is a fact that some people are more prone to putting on weight than others. Your genetics and body shape will play a role in how easy it is for you to gain or lose weight. Although this can be a setback you must remember that it is still only one part of the equation. There are many other things that will affect whether you lose weight, so do not focus just on the genetics that you have been given.
If you find it easy to put on weight you may have to work a little harder than some other people to keep it off. Don't think that your genetics will be a huge obstacle in losing weight. If you want to do it bad enough then you will succeed in doing so. Besides think of how much prouder you will be when you do succeed, as you would have done it without certain advantages.

The Perfect Diet

Does the perfect diet really exist? In my opinion I do not think it does. What do I base my opinion on? For me the answer is simple, We are all different. Just as we all have different tastes in clothes, or some of us prefer a certain hairstyle. The same principle applies to diets. As I am sure we have all found out. Just because a diet has worked for a friend or family member, it won't necessarily mean that it will work for you. So what would I class as the perfect diet? Firstly for a diet to be a success, I would of course want to lose weight. Next for the weight I had lost to stay off. The last thing I would want is to be on a quick fix diet. A perfect diet is one that I am able to follow easily and within my budget. Finally, a perfect diet is one were I enjoy the food I am eating.
From reading the last paragraph, I am sure you will agree that it is very difficult to name a diet that ticks all the boxes. I did miss out one factor which makes up part of the perfect diet. The missing link in finding the perfect diet is the determination to want to lose the weight in the first place. I know that if I don't want to lose weight or have the determination to stick to the plan, then in all honesty none of the above really matters. As with smoking if you wish to quit, then you need to have the drive and determination to do so. Over the years I have tried many diets. Along the way I have picked up some useful tips to help me on my way. My first tip is to buddy up with your partner or friend. There is no need for your buddy to go on the full diet with you. For example if you are following the Atkins diet, your partner can follow the diet and add a portion of rice, pasta or potatoes with their meal. Don't be afraid to alter a diet to your needs and situation, that does not mean eating a chocolate bar with every meal! Watch your alcohol intake, as too much to drink really won't help your diet. If you really need a glass of wine try Weight Watchers wine it's really not that bad. Don't forget to allow yourself a treat every now and then. A little bit of what you like won't hurt. Cutting out your favourite foods will only mean your body crying out for them. Try and find a diet you feel comfortable with and can afford to follow. Finally set yourself realistic goals, this will help you keep to the diet.
Finally, if you are putting on weight or even losing weight. Is there a reason behind it? No diet in the world will ever solve your problems, only cover them up for a short period.

Since you'll be training hard, you should pay strict attention to your nutrition because if not, all your hard work will be wasted. Avoid foods high in saturated fats and soft drinks which are filled with sugars. Don't snack on just anything. If you don't know what to eat, here is a sample nutrition for your weight loss goals. Eat more quality protein and opt for complex carbohydrates but be moderate though. Some valuable protein sources are skinless chicken breast/turkey breast, egg whites, white fish, lean red meat, tuna, salmon, cottage cheese and skim milk. Some valuable complex carbohydrates are wholegrain cereals, porridge oats, oatcakes, wheetabix, shredded wheat, brown rice, corn, yam, lentils, potato, sweet potato, bagel, brown bread, wholemeal breads, spaghetti and macaroni. Don't forget your vegetables intake like broccoli, green beans, asparagus, tomatoes, lettuce, garlic(garlic has been proven to be great for weight loss) and eat fruits like banana, orange, kiwi, papaya and grape. Opt for healthy fats like canola oil and olive oil. Go for healthy cooking techniques like boiling, baking or steaming. Drink lots of water at least 8 glasses or bring at least a 1.5 litre bottle with you. Go for 4-6 small meals per day instead of 3 big meals. And eat every 2-3 hours. Eating regularly in small quantity will boost your metabolism which will put your body in a fat burning mode rather than fat storing. Get adequate amount of sleep everyday.

As a new mom, you do not want to feel miserable so make sure you avoid starving diets! We all know that the best way to lose after pregnancy weight is to eat healthy and exercise, but of course if that does not work there is a diet that can help you.

Before I continue I have to admit that at first I did the starving diets before I learned what I am about to tell you. The problem with any starving diet is that you mess up your metabolism and since that is the engine our body runs on, we really should not play with it. Since I made the mistake, I hope I can save you from it too.

You see, what happens is when you go on a starving diet you lose weight quickly because your metabolism is used to burning more calories and you are putting in a lot less than that. So initial diet does the deed. But the problem is after you stop the diet you gain the weight back because now your metabolism thinks it needs to burn only the low amount of calories, and you are back to your regular eating so you are automatically gaining the extra pounds back.

Let me try to explain in numbers. If you are on average consuming 2000 calories a day and you cut your food intake to 1000 your metabolism is used to burning 2000 and you originally lose the weight, but as the time goes on, you lose less and less weight because your metabolism is burning less calories! Lets say 30 days into your diet, you lose all the weight you wanted and you go back to regular eating schedule. That is when the problem happens. Your metabolism is stuck in the mode of burning 1000 calories and you are putting 2000 back into your body. By the time it catches with you, you will gain all the weight back and maybe even few extra. So all your hard work for nothing!

To avoid this problem and to avoid messing with your metabolism you need to learn how to burn more calories while you continue to eat and not starve yourself.

There is a mistaken belief going around, which isn't based in any sort of scientific study, that if you work out the muscles around unwanted fat, the fat will disappear. The reality is that working out muscles in a specific area does nothing more in that area than build those muscles. Building muscles in an area can make it look leaner, but it won't get rid of the fat. The reality is that you have to burn fat off in whatever order your genetic disposition burns off fat. So you have to work on cutting down on processed foods in favor of high fiber foods such as vegetables and fruits. Don't juice your fruits and veggies or you will find yourself eating too much.

Finally, we did sort of infer in the title that we would show off your abdominal muscles after you lose your belly fat. What Foods Burn Fat - Give Me Some Chicken, Just Not Deep Fried!

So, what other foods burn fat? You will be surprised at the variety of foods that aid to burn fat. When we talk about food, it can be split up into 3 nutrient groups - Carbohydrates, Proteins and Fat. For the purpose of this article and to keep you interested I will just name a few of the foods within the PROTEIN nutrient group that are a MUST to be eaten when it comes to knowing what burns fat and building lean muscle.

Give me another chicken breast please! Now let me give you a quick run down on Protein, and why its needs to be vital part of our fat burning systems. All of our bodies muscles, organs and glands are basically made up of protein (except two parts). Now, protein is made up of a chain of amino acids, around 22 of them. The body can create around 13 of these amino acids by itself. Guess where the other 9 have to come from. Yes, you guessed it, food.

So is that not enough reason to start topping up on your protein reserves. So what protein sources are good ones to start scoffing down in moderation.

Lean meat, such as chicken breasts, turkey breasts are the best options. Then lean pork, lean beef (sirloin cuts), any fish, and dairy are also great options. Remember to try and also get the low fat options of these, so if you go for chicken, without the skin please. Same goes for beef, no point getting a nice big fatty chop to suckle on, because you will also be getting a nice serving of saturated animal fat to clog that most important muscle...the heart.

Make it a low fat latte thanks (minimal sugar, if any). f you go for dairy, a small pot of low fat yogurt will do just fine. Don't forget low fat cheese - a sprinkle is great on anything. Low fat milk, not 0% fat, just skimmed 2% will do just fine.

Are you Nuts! Yes another good natural protein source is a handful of nuts. Almonds, walnuts and Brazil nuts are the best, but keep it to two portions per day, due to their fat content.

When it comes to portions, think about the size of you palm. Liquids, no more than a cup for each meal. Try and get at minimum 3 to 5 portions of protein a day and you should be well on your way to stocking the furnace and knowing what burns fat and builds lean muscle (which burns even more fat) - before you are tempted to stick another fried chicken bucket down the gob.
