Vitamin A Sources and Deficiencies-Secret behind this Vitamin

Vitamin A, also known as retinol, offers a whole heap of benefits in vision, reproduction, bone development, division of cells and cell differentiation. It also plays significant role in the production of white blood cells. In effect, it strengthens the immune system of the body and aids in fighting against various harmful germs and viruses. Vitamin A offers a healthy subtle sheath in the retina, respiratory tract, urinal tract and intestinal tract areas. Vitamin A deficiencies may cause breaking this sheath - this, in turn, makes it easy for germs to enter into the health system.

Types

Typically, vitamin A can be subdivided into two categories depending on their sources of availability. These two categories are preformed vitamin A and provitamin A carotenoid. Preformed vitamin A can mostly be found from animals such as liver, whole milk and fortified food products. This type is easily absorbed in the form of retinol. Retinol can be converted into retinal and retinoic acid within the body.
Provitamin A carotenoid can be found in colorful fruits and vegetables. Few common forms of this type of vitamin A are beta-carotene, alpha-carotene, and beta-cryptoxanthin. Among all of these forms, beta-carotene can be effectively prepared into retinol.

Sources of Vitamin A

Animals and animal products are considered as the wise selection for vitamin A sources. It is mainly because of the fact that it is well absorbed and utilized efficiently with the body system. However, plants can also be considered as vitamin A sources, but they can not be well absorbed within the body and may not function effectively as well. Liver, fortified skim milk, cheese, and egg are great vitamin A sources.

Carrot offers generous amount of vitamin A. Whether you take it raw or boiled or as a juice, it offers you plenty amount of vitamin A. Apart from that, you can depend on kale, vegetable soup, apricots with skin, apricot nectar, oatmeal, peas, orange juice, peaches, and pepper.

Deficiencies of Vitamin A

Vitamin A deficiencies largely depend on regions. The deficiency is quite prominent in developing countries like India; however, it is rarely seen in USA. In the developing regions, a significant number of children become blind every year due to vitamin A deficiencies. On the other hand, vitamin A deficiencies are mostly related to the strict dietary restrictions and excessive alcohol consumption.

Night blindness is one of the most significant conditions occurring as a result of vitamin A deficiencies. Dated back to ancient period, Egyptian civilization also confirmed the usefulness of liver in treating night blindness. Liver is a great source of vitamin A contents. Vitamin A deficiencies contribute to night blindness by turning the cornea very dry and damaging the cornea and retina.

Vitamin A deficiencies may also contribute in weaker immune system. In developing countries, immunization program is thus restricted. The mortality rate is very high due to complications of infectious diseases like measles. Pneumonia is also believed to be caused due to vitamin A deficiency.

Current Controversies

Few scientific studies argue that there is a strong relation between beta-carotene and lower risk of cancer. A higher intake of colorful fruits and vegetables may lower the possibilities of lung cancer. However, it is strongly controversial in nature. It is mainly because of the fact that many studies also advocate against the correlation. They conducted research for investigating the significance of beta-carotene supplements in preventing various types of cancer, but could not find any effective result supporting the relevance.

Recent studies are going for finding out the potential adverse effect associated with excess intake of vitamin A supplements. Several researchers have found out that there is a strong correlation between excess intake of vitamin A and weaker bone structure. Hypervitaminosis A is a critical condition referred to the excess storage of vitamin A in the body. Birth defects, abnormalities in liver, declined bone mineral density and CNS disorders are the common adverse effects associated with the excess intake of vitamin A.

Laparoscopic Surgery: a surgery with lesser hassles than others

People usually fear of surgeries because of the hassles they have to tolerate. People like to go for surgery when there is no other option left. In this era of modern technology, everybody wants to get everything done with no pains and as soon as possible. One of the latest technologies called Laparoscopic Surgery has made this dream come true. Laparoscopic Surgery is also known as minimally invasive surgery because of the less number of side effects. It does not consist of number of things, which are forbidden. Patient does not have to stay in hospital for longer time. What else a patient who has compulsion to go for surgery can ask for?

Laparoscopic Surgery is usually used to treat abdominal diseases. It does not consist of longer incisions and than stapling of stomach. Number of stitches, longer hospital stay, and after that also, it takes a longer time to go back to work. All these things make a person fear of surgery. Laparoscopic Surgery has advantage over all these things and therefore it is preferred more than others. Laparoscopic Surgery is used to remove stones from gall bladder, remove vermiform appendix etc. Laparoscopic Surgery is used to insert lap-band around the stomach, to repair hernias etc.

Laparoscopic Surgery is done with help of an instrument called laparoscope. Laparoscope has light source on its tip and has miniature cameras. Two or three small incisions are made in the abdomen to insert laparoscope and other tools through the side ports. Miniature cameras inside the laparoscope make everything visible on the screen. The whole surgery is performed through tools by watching the things inside the stomach on the screen in the real time. Abdomen is insufflated with carbon dioxide to make everything visible clearly and tools can perform surgery easily. Later this carbon dioxide is removed through respiration by the body. Laparoscope plays an important role in the surgery therefore, it is known as Laparoscopic Surgery.

Patient can go home within two days of the Laparoscopic Surgery. Before going for Laparoscopic Surgery, patient must make it sure that the surgeon is well trained and familiar with the Laparoscopic Surgery. If you want to go for the surgery, which is minimally invasive, you can go for Laparoscopic Surgery.

Vitamin K Sources, Benefits, and Deficiencies

Vitamin K is one of the important fat-soluble vitamins that plays significant role in blood coagulation. Our body stores vitamin K and other fat-soluble vitamins in fatty tissues. Vitamin K deficiencies are rare in practice; however, it is mostly prominent as one of the apparent side effects of long-term antibiotic treatment.

Sources of Vitamin K

Vitamin K is abundant in green leafy vegetables such as spinach and lettuce. Cauliflower, kale, cabbage, and broccoli are one of the important vitamin K sources. Green leafy vegetables satisfy almost half of the dietary needs of vitamine K supplements. Apart from that, vitamin K is plenty in wheat bran, organic meats, cereals, kiwis, avocados, bananas, meats, dairy products, eggs and other soy products.

Chicken egg yolk, cow liver, butter and cheese offer you plenty of vitamin K1, an essential dietary form of vitamin K. It is also known as phylloquinone. It is also available in mayonnaise.

Functions of Vitamin K

Vitamin K functions at different levels in our body system. It significantly affects the blood coagulation process occurred in the liver. An active haemostatic nutrient vitamin K offers a whole host of benefits in treating anticoagulant-induced prothrombin deficiency. Vitamin K functions as a coenzyme in the production of gamma-carboxylic enzymes. It also aids in translating inactive precursors into active coagulation elements.

Vitamin K consists of anti-osteoporotic property. But the exact mechanism is not yet clear. Essentially, there are two types of proteins found in the bones. These proteins largely depend on vitamin K content. These are crucially important in bone mineralization. Hence, vitamin K is responsible for bone strengthening.
Vitamin K also possesses antioxidant property. Hence it protects body and skin to fight against free radicals. Synthetically produced vitamin K has anti-tumor property.

Deficiencies of Vitamin K

Vitamin K deficiencies may occur to any one; however, newborns are highly susceptible in developing such deficiencies. Breast milk is typically not sufficient to fulfill the nutritional needs in many cases, so is true in the case of vitamin K. As much as 20 percent of the total requirement for vitamin K is supplied with breast milk. In general, infants are born having low level of vitamin K in their body. In addition, they do not possess any vitamin K producing bacteria within their intestine. Quite obviously, their digestive tracts are germ-free. This inevitably results in a variation of vitamin K deficiencies. This condition is known as hemorrhagic disorder for infants. If an infant is suffering from this condition, he or she may start experiencing continuous bleeding underneath the skin. However, it is indeed an atypical case and occurs 1 among 100 infants. In rare occasion, it causes mortality as well.

Although vitamin K deficiencies are not common among adults, it is quite apparent among people suffering from health conditions that avert from fat absorption in the body. These health conditions include cholestasis, cystic fibrosis and celiac disease. People suffering from fistula, obstructive jaundice, Crohn's disease, intestinal bypass, and steatorrhea are on high risk of vitamin K deficiency. Adults on prolonged antibiotic treatment may suffer from vitamin K deficiencies. It is mainly occurred due to the fact that antibiotics kill the essential germs living within the digestive tract. In fact, intestinal bacteria fulfill the daily needs for vitamin K. Vitamin K deficiencies may result in bleeding gums or infected skin area.

Prevention

Typically, vitamin K deficiencies are not of a concern for the mass. However, infants and young children are always at high risk. Green vegetables, dairy products, eggs, soy products, canola oil and olive oil are good source for vitamin K and help in preventing vitamin K deficiencies.

Toxicity

Till date, no adverse effect has been reported against the usage of vitamin K, even when it is used in mega dosages. However, synthetic production of vitamin K may cause negative effects, if used in larger dosages. The toxic effects may result in various health complications such as kernicterus, hemolytic anemia and hyperbilirubinemia.

Lap Band: new, safe, painless, and viable technique to reduce weight.

If you are suffering from obesity, which is caused due to overeating. You do not look beautiful, people stare you when you walk on road, your friends tease you by calling others names, you cannot work actively and you get tired very soon. All these can get you into depression and then some other diseases like high or low blood pressure, heart diseases etc. You have used so many methods to make yourself slim. You have used so many recipes told by your granny, you have done long exercises, you have taken so many medicines, you have used so many products available in market, but nothing worked. Now there is a viable solution for your problem Lap Band.

Lap Band is a round structure made up of silicon which is tied on the stomach making a pouch of the stomach, which makes the stomach small. All this work on the principle that overeating is controlled. When the stomach becomes small it allows lesser amount of food to go in than that usually used to go. As soon as the pouch gets filled, message is sent to the brain by the stomach that it is filled now and no need to eat more. This band is inserted into the stomach by making five small incisions 1.5mm long, this technique is called laparoscopic surgery. Other methods to insert Lap Band can also be used but, laparoscopic surgery is preferred because there is no pain, no longer stay in hospital and there is no cutting and stapling of stomach. Lap Band can be adjusted after the surgery according to need by the surgeon without any further operation.

After the surgery you are to take care of your diet also. Some eatable things are forbidden to you like coffee, tea, or soda drink. You should be aware that no caffeine is permitted for the first three months after surgery. Carbonated beverages may cause gas, bloating, and an increase in stomach size due to the carbonation. There may be some side effects also like heart burn and might continuously throw up until the body becomes accustomed to the Lap Band surgery. Before going for Lap Band Laparoscopic surgery you should assure that surgeon must be highly trained.

Six Pack Abs Diet - 4 Top Nutrition Tips for Six Pack Abs

There are so many fad diets for weight loss on the market that consumers are confused about which one to follow. Most of these diets tend to limit the consumption of a particular macronutrient (protein, carbs or fat) or food group. However, your body needs all macronutrients to function efficiently. Every fad diet claims to be "the" most effective for fat loss and yet, none seems agree with each other on the best way to eat for fat loss and overall good health.

The truth is you don't need to follow any of the extreme diets such as low carb, low fat, high protein, cabbage soup, etc, in order to lose belly fat for visible six pack abs.

While people may experienced initial weight loss with these diets, they typically lose water and lean muscle, which will sabotage their metabolism. As a result, they gain body fat back in the long run.

In view of the confusion, eating a balanced, natural and wholesome diet is the way to healthy fat loss and overall well-being. Your body needs protein, fats, carbs, vitamins and minerals to function efficiently. By eating natural and unprocessed foods, you don't crave for junk or processed foods.

Here are 4 six pack abs diet and nutrition tips for losing belly fat visible abs...

1. Consume sufficient lean protein in your daily diet. Protein has the highest thermic effect (calories burned from digestion) compared to carbs and fats. It is recommended to include a portion of protein with each meal, to help to moderate blood sugar response to ingested carbs and provide satiety. In addition, protein is essential for building and maintaining lean muscle. The amount of lean muscle you have is one of the determinants of your metabolic rate.

2. Your carbohydrate intake should consist of high fiber sources like vegetables, fruits and whole unrefined grains. Fiber satisfies your hunger for longer period of time, gives you steady energy levels and reduce cravings. Refined carbs must be avoided as they trigger higher insulin levels and fluctuating blood sugar levels. Thus, you crave for more carbs and this makes it more difficult to lose body fat. Look for carbohydrate sources that have at least 2-3 grams of fiber per each 10 grams of total carbs.

3. Eating the right fat can make you lean! Healthy dietary fats are essential for optimal hormone production and balance, muscle building and fat burning. Good sources of healthy dietary fats include avocados, fish, seeds, nuts and olive oil. Avoid man-made, processed, chemically altered fats that are found in most processed foods. When these damaged fats form part of your cell membranes, they impair cellular function and cause degenerative diseases. These unhealthy fats are found in hydrogenated oils, refined oils and homogenized milk fat.

4. The following 2 evil substances are present in huge quantities in our food supply:

- high fructose corn syrup (in sweetened products such as sodas, fruit juices, sweetened beverages, cakes, cookies, salad dressings and ketchup)

- trans fat (hydrogenated oils, margarine and shortening found in most processed foods)

AVOID them as much as possible. Both highly processed substances promote fat storage and cause other health problems. By choosing wholesome, natural foods and avoiding processed foods, you can simply eliminate these 2 evil substances from your diet.

By following these 4 six pack abs diet and nutrition tips, you'll be able to gain control over your appetite, blood sugar levels, hormone levels, etc. Eventually, you will gain control over how lean you want to get and be showing off those six pack abs in no time!

Losing Pregnancy Weight: Need a Constant Source of Motivation?

Do you struggle with weight loss? Some days, you feel gung-ho. You're ready to eat salad and chicken all day long, forsaking desserts for good. Other days, you feel completely hopeless. You think, "why bother?" as you reach to open a bag of cookies.

When fighting a war against unhealthy habits, you will win and lose some battles. The key is keeping in touch with the "why" behind your weight loss so you can win over the long haul. Why do you want to lose your pregnancy pounds? To be attractive? Healthier? For your husband or your kids' sake? When you're in touch with your values, the decisions become clear. You're driven by something higher than your taste buds.

Sometimes you have to consider what you don't want to realize what you do want:

1. Don't become a statistic. The proportion of Americans who are overweight or obese has been rising for the past 25 years. Don't be part of the nearly two-thirds of women in the United States who are overweight, or the one-third who are obese. Being part of this crowd means you're high risk for heart disease, cancer, diabetes and other major health problems. And the most sobering thing is that your children will follow you.

2. Don't be a victim. Maybe you come from a family that has struggled with being overweight for generations. Or you find yourself depressed and unable to make wise decisions. Don't give in to the victim mentality. You can do something positive to turn your situation around. You are not stuck with a particular destiny unless you surrender your will.

3. Don't wait for a feeling. Most days, you won't "feel" motivated. Sustainable motivation doesn't begin with a feeling. It begins with a decision you make with your mind.

4. Chances are you don't want to be a statistic, a victim or a procrastinator. Now is the time to make some decisions that will change the course of your life and your children's. When you need motivation, just look at your precious baby. What kind of health do you want for him or her? Let healthy eating and exercise begin with you!

Today's Action Step: What is your personal motivation for losing weight after baby?

Losing Pregnancy Weight: How Do I Fit in Exercise?

Being a new mom is an up at dawn, all day long, middle of the night job! Your baby's needs can leave you feeling tired and overwhelmed. When you read about exercise, you wonder how you're supposed to find the time for working out. Here are a few ideas to get you moving in the right direction:

1. Make it fun. Swing baby around throughout the day. Run up and down the stairs over and over again. Your bouncing baby will love her new roller coaster. Get out of the house and walk. Take in the beauty around you.

2. Seize the moment. Feel busy now with baby? Fast forward the tape 5 years...you'll be dropping your baby off at kindergarten with two more kids in the backseat. Ah then, you'll be really busy! Life doesn't slow down. A better time will not exist in the future. Now is the time to get in the fabulous habit of exercise.

3. Involve a friend. If you're meeting a friend for lunch, insist on taking a walk after your meal together. Look for ways to be active with others. Meet weekly with another mom to workout, either with the kids or take turns watching the kids while the other mom exercises for 20 minutes.

4. Plan for it. On Sundays, take your calendar out and schedule in your exercise times for the week. Exercise DVD during baby's Monday morning nap. Walk 45 minutes with baby on Wednesday after lunch. Put it in your calendar and stick to it. You wouldn't miss a doctor's appointment, so don't miss these critical appointments for your health.

5. Set small goals and reach them. If the thought of finding time for a 45 minute workout gets you depressed, start with fitting 10 minutes of exercise into your day, 5 days a week. Once you establish that as your normal routine, you can extend your workout time to 20 minutes on some days, or have a few 10 minute sessions during the day.

As your baby grows up into a little child, give him the gift of a fit, healthy mom. If you exercise, your children will someday too. If you want them to be healthy in the future, it's time for you to set the example and start fitting time in for exercise today.

Today's Action Step: Which of these ideas will you use to fit exercise into your schedule?

Losing Pregnancy Weight: How Soon Can I Exercise?

You just had your baby. You're reclining on that hospital bed dreaming of exercise, right? Probably not. Exercise can seem like a joke for the first few weeks after having a baby. But when it's the right time, exercise will become one of your best allies for weight loss.

So when is the right time to begin exercising and losing those pregnancy pounds? How many weeks postpartum should you wait before hitting the gym or dusting off your exercise DVDs?

1. Right after delivery, you can start Kegel exercises. As long as your doctor allows, you can begin Kegel exercises whenever you feel up to it. Strengthening the pelvic floor will speed your recovery along.

2. As soon as you're comfortable, begin to walk. Walk as much as you can without feeling fatigued. Light lower and upper body exercises can be started after delivery too. You should not feel any exercise related pain. In fact, exercise should make you feel better.

3. Wait 6-8 weeks for regular exercise. Whether you had a C-section or a vaginal delivery, it's normal to pick up your exercise routine 6 weeks after birth. You may have to wait longer if you had complications during pregnancy or delivery that requires extra care. Your doctor will give you the thumbs up on the right exercise plan for you. Pick exercises you enjoy and can sustain on a regular basis.

4. Exercise with baby. Enjoy stroller walks and jogs. Carry baby in a sling while you walk or hike. Put baby on the floor next to you while you do push-ups, sit-ups, and weight training.

5. Don't overdo it. Call your doctor if you experience severe or chronic pain, increased vaginal bleeding, faintness, nausea, or difficulty breathing.

As you allow for adequate recovery, you'll enjoy the many benefits of exercise postpartum and in the years to come!

Beat Postpartum Depression and Lose Your Pregnancy Weight

You had everything checked and double checked for your baby's arrival: diapers, wipes, onesies, bottles, car seat and stroller. But how does a mother prepare for postpartum depression? Is there a checklist for dealing with feelings of sadness, irritability, and the emotional ups and downs of being a new mom?

When you're down, it's almost impossible to think about losing weight. And those extra pregnancy pounds just add to your anxiety. So here are a few ideas to improve your mood, give you hope, and get you on track to losing weight after baby:

1. Surround yourself with family and friends. Don't isolate yourself. Ask others for help, both emotionally when you need someone to talk to, and physically when you need someone to help you with baby for an hour while you take a nap.

2. Exercise with a friend. Misery loves company right? Recruit your mom, sister, neighbor or friend to walk around the block with you and baby. Make it a regular weekly appointment and ramp it up as you're able (move from walking, to walking and jogging, or walking and weight lifting). Make exercise a priority. It's a proven way to minimize postpartum depression.

3. Take 15 minutes a day for your appearance. Shower, get dressed, and put on a little makeup every day. When you look presentable, it will do wonders for your self esteem. On the other hand, if you look frumpy, you will feel frumpy.

4. Set realistic fitness goals. When you have something to shoot for, you won't feel hopeless. Make a goal to lose one pound a week. You'll be encouraged as you see your progress. Moms who set realistic goals do better emotionally than those who don't.

If your depression lasts for longer than 2 weeks or is very deep, talk with your doctor. The most important thing is to seek help and solutions. You've accomplished the massive challenge of childbirth; you can get through this too. You can do it mom!

Increase Your Metabolic Rate And Lose Weight Fast With Hypnotherapy

We've all heard it or even said it one time or another: "I'm not able to lose weight because of my metabolism." It's convenient to blame our unwanted weight on an abstract idea like metabolism, but let's look at the real importance of metabolism - and better yet, how to get the most "burn" for your buck by recharging your metabolism.

In the most fundamental sense, metabolism encompasses all of the physical and chemical changes that happen inside the cells of the body. Most often, though, metabolism refers to the manner in which the body acquires and uses energy from food, so it really does have an important function in weight loss and gain.

Not everyone is given the same metabolism, and our rates actually change over the course of our lives, so someone who blames their metabolism isn't necessarily making excuses. Age affects metabolism, which will slow about 5% every 10 years after we turn 40, and by gender, as males usually burn more calories at rest than females, and by the quantity of muscle mass you possess (more muscle generally means a higher metabolic rate). Family history also influences metabolism, not to mention pregnancy, as well as whether a woman chooses to breast-feed.

Regardless of all of the wild cards, the fact is that when your calorie intake exceeds your metabolism, excess energy will get housed in the body as fat. Though some of the factors affecting metabolic rate cannot be changed, fortunately, there are methods to rev up the metabolism you are born with.

The first directive is to eat the correct foods in the right quantities. When you omit a meal, your body switches to starvation mode, which slows metabolism to conserve calories, because it does not know when it will be fed again. And when the metabolism slows, so does your weight loss.

When you finally do eat food after having skipped a meal, instead of using the calories in the food you have just had, your body transfers them to body fat to store for the next "fast." To keep your metabolism efficient, eat 4 - 6 small meals during the day and try to eat close to the same times every day. Most importantly, never skip a meal.

You can also step up your metabolic rate with exercise, including both aerobic routines and weight training. Aerobic activities, such as biking, dancing and running, use more calories in the short term, while weight training will create more muscle, which increases metabolism and burns more calories in the long term - even when you are resting, muscle needs more calories to function than fat.

In fact, every pound of muscle requires 35 calories a day, while every pound of fat requires only 2 calories per day. Despite this, you may be surprised that the more weight you posses, the faster your metabolism is likely to run. Simply put, the extra weight forces your body work more to maintain its processes.

This is partly why it's nearly always easiest to lose weight when you start dieting, and is challenging as you go along because, when you are significantly overweight, your metabolism is already at a high rate, so that even a minor reduction in calories will give you an immediate weight loss.

But what happens after that immediate loss, when a plateau occurs and motivation seems to go by the "weigh" side? Old cravings and compulsions can suddenly return, and when they do, do not overlook a valuable resource - lose weight hypnotherapy. Hypnotherapy can actually retrain your unconscious mind so that, in essence, you can get rid of food cravings. When we study why we snack, identifying why weight loss hypnosis works so well becomes evident.

For a lot of people, snacking has become a habit - maybe you do it automatically when you are driving or watching TV or when you are under stress. Hypnosis can actually reprogram your thoughts to stop those associations, leaving you to watch TV or drive without experiencing the need to eat.

One of the most successful lose weight hypnosis techniques for stopping the snacking cycle is Neuro-Linguistic Programming, or NLP, which relies on negotiating with the unconscious mind and making it use the same thought processes that are creating your appetite, to eliminate your appetite. NLP requires many years of study and practical experience for a hypnotherapist to learn and master, but positive results can come very quickly and seem almost magical to a person who has always experienced cravings.

NLP can be equally as essential as motivation and exercise because, as you learned above, it can help make sure that you eat the proper kinds of foods at the right times, and this is a main aspect of turbo-charging your metabolism. If you aim to keep your metabolism at full speed and make sure that all of your exercise and hard work aren't being wasted by giving in to your food temptations, weight loss hypnosis and NLP can be a secret weapon to eliminate your cravings altogether.

Gift yourself a healthy life with weight loss surgery

Carrying around the weight of an extra baggage cannot be much fun and when that weight is your own, you feel doomed. Excessive weight or obesity in people all across the globe is rising with alarming speed. A sedentary lifestyle and irregular schedule is a major contributor to this epidemic. Obesity is indeed a disease that can become life threatening if not checked at the early stages. The main danger form this condition is that it has a lot of connected problems associated with this condition. An obese person will be more likely to have a weak heart and face the dangers of a possible heartache. He would be more prone to asthma, arthritis, blood pressure, diabetes and so on. At times, a strict exercise regime or a regulated diet plan is not sufficient to fight the condition. In such cases, the best option would be to go in for a weight loss surgery and regain a healthy life.

Not everyone can qualify for a weight loss surgery and the basic criteria to be met is that the patient must be above eighteen years of age, must have been obese for over five years and unable to reduce weight through the normal methods of weight loss like exercise and dieting. If you fall into the eligible category then the first thing for you to do would be to locate a competent surgeon who specializes in weight loss surgery procedures. A past reference or verification of his record of accomplishment is a good way to judge the expertise of the surgeon being considered for your treatment. Ask all the questions, which you feel, are relevant to your surgery and clarify every doubt that you may be having regarding the procedure before you agree for the operation.

Also, before you make up your mind about undergoing a weight loss surgery, make sure that you are well acquainted with the postoperative precautions and care that need to be maintained by the patient. A patient would be required to maintain a strict regime of controlled diet until the time his doctor has prescribed. Water intake must be high while intake of liquid like various beverages is completely forbidden. In addition, the patient is required to consume a lean protein diet for every meal as otherwise he may be prone to weakness and anemia. A weight loss patient is not allowed to go on a snacking binge as this might completely do away with the results of the surgery. In addition, in spite of a weight loss surgery, most patients are required to do some exercise every day.

Only if a person is ready to follow these instructions closely, should he or she opt for a weight loss surgery. As the surgery can be an expensive affair, take care to find out all about the cost involved in the entire process. Many countries with good facilities are providing the option of this kind of treatment and it may be a good idea to consider all options available before arriving at any kind of decision.

Low Carb Foods Role in Weight Loss Diet Plan

There is possibly no effective weight loss diet plan without including low carb foods in it. Few years back the craze was with low fat or fat free diet for attaining and maintaining a healthy weight. In some ways, this craze was beneficial to health, but in some other ways, it was not. For example, fat free milk is good for health; however, low fat cookies may offer high calories almost similar to normal ones.

In recent years, the vogue aligns with low carbohydrate or in short, low carb foods. It is quite common to see in grocery shops that there are varieties of foods bearing low-carb labels on them. The list may include the food types of muffins, breads, pizzas, cakes, pasta, sandwiches, tortillas, cookies, beers and many others.

In general low carb diet prevents or strictly restricts bread, pasta and other starchy foods, particularly those foods made up of white flour. But it is not so rigid also; you can still have some bread while maintaining your healthy diet. There are a whole host of low carb foods available in the market. To stay on low carb diet, obesity is not the only condition. You can even switch to it, if you are just calorie conscious. Theoretically, low carb foods offer low calories, so logic says that these foods are helpful in maintaining health.

Research on Low Carb

Some studies claim that people living on low carb foods actually eat more than people in standard low fat plans, however, the former group still loses weight than the later group. However, the report is strongly controversial in nature such as Atkins diet, which claims that low carb foods actually consume more calories.

The research supporting the benefits of low carb diet claims that low carb diets are more rewarding, so they do not feel hunger. According to Atkins diet, people in low-carb, high-fat diets eat more than people in standard diet.

Requirements of Vitamin Supplements

If you are in low carb diet, it is essential that you must take vitamin and mineral supplements. In fact, we become overweight due to the fact of our addiction over eating foods high in carbohydrates, but lack in carbohydrate may result in nutritional deficiency. So vitamin and mineral supplements are necessary. It is always advisable that you should take your vitamin supplement before going to bed.

Water Cure

Water is life, water means life we all know that we can't live without water. Water is also necessary to cleanse your system. It helps in maintaining proper kidney and liver functions. The usefulness of water temperature does't really matter. Some prefer cold water, whereas some prefer to stay with lukewarm as well.

Complications during low carb diet

Some people report few common complications during their low carb diet program. One of such complication is bad breath. It occurs mainly due to ketones production. Ketones are produced when body fat is converted into energy. However, not all the ketones contribute to bad health, but many people simply quit from low carb program because of bad breath problem. In addition to bad breath, some people also experience intense odor in perspiration.

Additionally, the experience of leg cramps is also reported by few people on low carb diet. It is typically occurred during the initial phases of the low carb diet program. Inadequate vitamin and mineral supplements are believed to be the primary causes of leg cramps.

Controversy

However in practice, the concept of low carb foods is not what it is claimed. The benefits found from these foods are questionable. Some researchers even claim these foods as a way for nutrition loss rather than weight loss. Some of the weight loss programs suggest replacing carb foods with protein ones, but the level of calorie consumption does't really differ. Moreover, the foods labels do not carry any meaning, because there is no definition of low carb approved by FDA.

Fat Burning Foods - Which Foods Keep you Fit

Fat burning foods refer to specific type of foods that either burn fats accumulated in the body or improve metabolism. Adding these types of foods in your regular diet, you can easily wash out the fat from your body and keep yourself fit and healthy. In practice, foods function like fuel where metabolism as an engine. You put foods like a fuel to your metabolism engine, and it uses some of the foods to make energy that is required to keep us moving and alive. However, not all parts of the foods we take are used to produce energy, simply because it is beyond the actual demand for producing energy. These foods, which are not absorbed during the energy production, are then stored as fat and the rest of the amount is excreted from the body as waste products.

Individuals become fatty due to several reasons. It can be due to the reason of taking too much food than actually required by the body. The excess amount is then stored for future use. An individual can accumulate fat due to slow metabolic process as well. In a slow metabolic process, foods are not burnt up in sufficient amount. The result is inevitable accumulation of fat. Third reason may include inactivity. If you are not active enough, you body does not get the chance to burn up foods. Although, there are few medical conditions that contribute to obesity, but they are beyond the scope of this discussion.

This article sheds light on various fat burning foods and their various forms. It also suggests different ways to include them in your daily diet.

Citrus Fruits

Citrus fruits contain vitamin C and vitamin C possesses fat burning property. It trims down the efficacy of fat. It can lessen the fat content. Additionally, it can also liquefy the solid fat into diluted one. When fat gets diluted, it loses its ability to stay within the system; rather it washes out from the body effectively.

Vitamin C functions on cholesterol accumulation as well. Hence it reduces the possibility of cholesterol deposits in the blood vessels.

To enjoy the flavor of these fat burning foods rich in vitamin C, you can add oranges, limes, tangerines, and grape fruits in your daily diet. It will definitely enhance your metabolism as well as help you to regulate your cholesterol level.

Soybean

Lecithin is a chemical property of soybean. It helps in making sheath to your body cell, hence protects cells from accumulating fat. It is also capable of breaking fat contents that are already deposited in your body.

You can eat soy products several times a week in order to get rid off the problem of being obese.

Fresh Fruit

Pectin is an essential element that creates a natural limitation on the body cell regarding the amount of fat consumption. Pectin can be found in apples and in most of the berries and other fresh fruits. Pectin can absorb watery substances due to its water binding property. It helps releasing fats from cells. Hence fresh fruits can be an ideal choice for fat burning foods.

Garlic Oil

Garlic oil is found to be effective to reduce the amount of fatty acids from the body cells. If you take this as a part of fat burning foods, it can lower down the level of fat deposits. Garlic including garlic oil offers antibiotic solution. Therefore, you can use it for many bacterial infections.

Liquid Fats

It is not true that all fats are bad for your health. Rather you can consider liquid fats as one of the most essential fat burning foods. It helps your system to eliminate hard fatty substances from the body. Corn oil, Peanut oil, Safflower oil and Sunflower seed oil are great sources of liquid fats.

The liquid fats actually break down the hard fat content by releasing phospholipids fatty acids. Liquid fats functions in two ways. First of all, they provide you the required fats that are needed by your body. Secondly, they help your system to remove the hard fats from the body itself.

Weight-Loss Bullshit.

So I'm wearing my Exercise Scientist hat today.
And my Psychologist cardigan.
And my steel-capped, ass-kicking boots.

I may be blunt.
Okay, I will be.
But honest.
Possibly... politically incorrect.
Okay, probably.
Will possibly say what you don't want to hear.
Feel free to look away... now.

Hmm.. still here huh?
Thrill-seeker.
Crazy kid.

Even though I've spoken way too much for way too many years about getting in shape (in the course of my work)... and I'm kinda over it, recent events (stuff in the media here in Australia and several random conversations) have compelled me to write this post.
It seems we're still missing the point when it comes to losing weight (effectively and permanently).

If you, or someone you know, needs to lose weight, pay attention and/or pass this post along.

Conventional thinking tells us that losing weight is essentially a physiological process; lift this, run there, stretch that, get your heart rate up, decrease your calorie intake, no carbs after three (crapola) and increase your energy expenditure.
Mostly good advice.

And traditional approaches (by the medical profession and the fitness industry) tell us that weight loss is essentially about three key variables; exercise, food and lifestyle.
Oh yeh, and more education.
And to a point, they are right.
But only to a point.

I'm here to tell you that while exercise, food, lifestyle and education are indeed important variables in the process, without doubt, the biggest determinant of weight loss (or gain) is what's going on in that nine pound (four kilo) thing sitting on the top of our shoulders.

Yet the psychology of weight loss is rarely discussed (in any depth) by the 'experts'.
And in my humble opinion, that's because many of them don't get it.
It.. being the head stuff that goes with the body stuff.

If you have been, or are currently, overweight, then you absolutely know that losing weight is first and foremost a psychological and emotional process.
I was a fatty (200lbs, 90kgs at fourteen)... and when I got my head in the right place, my body followed.
I thought different, chose different(ly) and created different.

Q. What really determines weight loss (or gain)?
A. Attitude, thinking, self-control, mind-set and ultimately, decisions.

We know what to do.
But we don't do what we know.
We've never been more educated.
Yet we've never been fatter.
We've never had more resources.
And we've never made more excuses (heard them all).
We've never had more reasons to lose weight.
And we've never wasted more time.

But people don't wanna hear this message because it's too fundamental and obvious.
And it requires real effort, sacrifice, work and self-control.
No, we'd rather talk about weight-loss theory number ten million or the latest 'breakthrough' pill, powder, potion, product, gizmo or gadget.
Or that amazing new weight-loss book.
'Cause we need another one of those.

We want quick, easy, convenient and painless.
We are soft.
We are precious, lazy and lack self-control.
We are the quick-fix society.
And the instant-gratification generation.
And the fat generation.

We want an answer that doesn't require effort or sacrifice on our part.
And it is this mentality which keeps us (us, the society) fat.

If the answer to Global obesity was in fact, more education, information or resources, then we would all be getting leaner by the day because we've never been more educated, informed or equipped when it comes to diet, exercise, lifestyle and all that 'obesity-related stuff'.

Here's some random food for thought (nice book title)... on obesity.
(You can still look away at any time).

1. External change needs to be accompanied (or preceded) by, internal change (for it to be lasting).

2. Most people who lose weight regain it (over 95%) because they haven't really changed their attitude or thinking. They change their behaviours for a while but deep (deep, deep) down they haven't really changed their core thinking, beliefs, attitudes or standards. On a subconscious level many people are waiting for it (the diet, the fitness kick) to be over.. so they can go back to being 'normal'.
And when they do eat less and exercise more they (often) slide into a deprivation mentality... constantly telling themselves that they're 'missing out'.

3. If we tell ourselves that it will be a painful, horrible process... it will be (for everyone).
Attitude = outcome.

4. The sooner we stop looking for easy and start looking for effective... the sooner we'll start to see real (forever) change.

5. Weight-loss martyrs are a pain in the ass... "I've been so good... I've been so good."

6. While food, exercise and lifestyle are important ingredients in the weight-loss process... it is our head which determines how we eat, exercise and live.
Which in turn determines our physiological state.

7. The fat person with all the knowledge, education and resources... and a crap attitude.. will stay fat.

8. The fat person with limited knowledge, resources and genetic potential.. and a great attitude... will produce much better results every time.

9. The sooner we stop getting in shape for 'events' (weddings, birthdays, reunions, parties) and start getting in shape for life... the sooner we'll start to see forever results.

10. The fitness industry and medical profession have a one-dimensional approach to weight-loss; physical. This is ignorant, naive and ineffective. Losing weight (effectively) is a complex, multi-dimensional process (physical, emotional and psychological).

11. Losing weight is not about finding the right program, diet, supplement or drug; it's about finding the right attitude.

12. Many (okay, most) fat people make excuses and tell lies.
A lot.
Just ask the ex fat kid.
Yes, I know this sounds offensive but if you had experienced the thousands of conversations with as many fat people as I have... you'd know that I'm telling the truth.
You can get offended... or educated; it's a choice.

13. By the way, 'fat ' is not an insult (in this discussion)... it's a physiological state.

14. The sooner we call fat what it is (as opposed to deluding ourselves by calling each other full-figured, big-boned and heavy-set) the sooner we will get serious about addressing obesity in a real, practical, no bullshit way. Perhaps we should worry less about political correctness and more about heart disease, diabetes, bowel cancer and the plethora of other obesity-related conditions.
"Whatever you do.. don't mention the 'F' word.. you might hurt her feelings; she's not fat, she's... voluptuous!".

15. We love to play the blame game.
We wanna blame someone or something for our obesity.
It's a time thing.
It's a genetics thing.

As long as it's not a 'me' thing.

Otherwise I might have to get off my ass and take responsibility for my fat self.

If you're still talking to me, let me know your thoughts and where you're from.

PS. If you want to explore this subject in greater detail, there's a book called FATTITUDE which ain't too shabby. Not sure about the author.. but apparently the book's okay.

Hoodia Diet Pills - Lose Weight and Avoid Surgery

People are always looking for the easy way out in this day and age. Some choose to try to get rich by buying a huge amount of scratch tickets, while others try to look their best by having a huge amount of plastic surgery done. The worst situation may be when it comes to weight loss. Thousands of people are now looking to lose weight through surgery. Does this mean that dieting is no longer necessary? And is there any other way to lose weight other than going under the knife?

Surgery to Lose Weight

There are a few different ways to lose weight through surgery. The first is to have what is called a "lap band" put in. This is a synthetic piece of material that is put into your stomach, restricting the size of it so that you are unable to eat as much as you normally do. The other popular way to lose weight through surgery is to have a gastric bypass done. In this procedure, the stomach is actually sliced and sutured to be a much smaller size. Everything in your stomach is shifted around and you wind up having a stomach that is about the size of a quarter or half dollar.

Is Surgery Necessary?

Some swear that surgery is necessary in order to lose weight, while others believe that it is totally wrong. Let's think about this: would you expect someone who has smoked for 16 years to quit smoking cold turkey? The answer should be no. It's as difficult for most to lose weight as it is for some to stop the bad habits that they have had for a lifetime. What this means, however, is that those trying to lose weight may need a hand, but not necessarily surgery.

Losing Weight Naturally

If you have ever tried to lose weight naturally, you can probably understand how easy it is to want to jump straight to the surgical route. Fortunately there is a way to lose weight without having to be sliced open: Hoodia Diet Pills. Hoodia Gordonii Diet Pills are pills that have the extract from the Hoodia Gordonii plant in them. This plant has been used for thousands of years by indigenous tribes in South Africa and has been proven, time and time again, to help people lose weight.

It works by creating a chemical that is being labeled P57. This chemical goes directly into your brain, which is where everything is controlled, and sends the message to the hypothalamus that you are full. It works sort of like birth control pills do. Birth control pills tell a woman's body that she is already pregnant and that there is no need to send out any eggs. Hoodia Gordonii Diet Pills do the same thing, except that they control hunger instead of the reproductive tract and they don't have any of the nasty side effects that some birth control pills do.

Why would anybody want to have surgery when it was avoidable? Hoodia Gordonii Diet Pills are one way to give the body a hand at losing weight without having to get too extreme. Think about it this way: if it's worked for indigenous tribes for thousands of years, who's to say that it won't work now? Technology and advancement are all well and good, but sometimes it's the things used in the past that make all the difference.

Too Much of a Bad Thing

Generic Viagra - Canada Pharmacy

Americans are consuming two to three times the recommended daily amount of sodium that is considered healthy and its impact is taking a toll. Even when we try to be conscious of our choices we aren't able to control all of the sources of sodium in our diets. Many people are surprised to learn where the sodium in their diet is coming from.

The US Food and Drug Administration met on November 29 to discuss limiting the amount of salt in processed and restaurant foods; the two biggest sources of our daily intake. Although adding a pinch of salt here and there can add up, only about 11% of our daily intake comes from adding salt while eating or cooking. Another 12% comes from natural sources and an astounding 77% comes from processed foods.

The American Medical Association estimates that the number of deaths per year that can be attributed to sodium is equivalent to a jumbo jet with more than 400 passengers crashing every day of the year and killing everyone on board. By cutting our salt intake by half, the death rate in the US could be cut by 150,000 people per year.

Most recommendations for sodium intake range from 1,500-2,400 mg per day. Sodium intake is directly related to blood pressure, stroke, heart disease, and kidney failure; the less sodium you consume, the better off you'll be.

It's hard to stay on track with your daily limit if you dine out or eat pre-packaged foods. Until the FDA is able to regulate sodium we need to be more aware of what we're eating.

For instance, most people would assume that a good way to limit sodium in fast food would be to cut back on the French fries. However, hamburgers actually contain more sodium; a large order of fries contains about 330 mg and a small hamburger holds 520mg. Here are some other examples of restaurant and processed foods that contain more than a day's worth of sodium:

  • Marie Callender's Classic One Dish Chicken Teriyaki (2,200 mg, nearly the total recommended daily amount).
  • An order of beef and cheese nachos with sour cream and guacamole (2,430 mg, the same as the total recommended daily amount).
  • A typical Reuben sandwich (3,270 mg, one and half times recommended daily amount).
  • Denny's Lumberjack Slam Breakfast (4,460 mg, nearly twice recommended daily amount).
  • Swanson's Hungry Man XXL Roasted Carved Turkey (5,410 mg, over twice recommended daily amount).
The first step is to be more aware of what you're putting in your body. Read food labels and look for "reduced-sodium" items, eat more fresh foods and fewer processed foods, and limit sodium-laden condiments such as ketchup, salad dressings, sauces, mustard and relish.

How To Lose Belly Fat Before The Holidays

The most popular New Year's Resolution is to lose belly fat.

Unfortunately, 97% of resolution makers will fail within a few short months.

So, I ask you this. Why wait to make resolutions to burn stomach fat and risk gaining the typical 5 pounds over the holidays?

What point does it serve you to have another 5 or more pounds of stomach fat to lose in addition to what you have right now?

Wouldn't it feel incredible to go to your Christmas party 5 or more pounds leaner? What do you think everybody would say about you then?

Well, you can. It's not too late to burn belly fat before the holidays using these 5 simple strategies?

5 Strategies For Burning Belly Fat Before The Holidays

STOP: doing isolated abdominal exercises

Performing traditional isolated abdominal exercises are the least effective way to burn belly fat. It amazes me everytime I see herds of people desperately trying to tighten and tone their abs by doing crunches, leg raises, machine torso twists, side crunches and the many other ineffective ab exercises.

And, month after month they still have the same soft, flabby stomach fat. That's because traditional abs exercises do NOT:

  • significantly boost your metabolism
  • burn many calories
  • burn fat from your stomach or waistline

START: eating 5-6 smaller meals rich in protein

If you have been led to believe in the "eat less and exercise more" matra that is so popular with weight loss entusiasts trying to burn stomach fat, I have some sobering news for you.

You will never effectively burn abdominal fat if you are not eating enough. It doesn't matter how hard or how much you exercise either. In fact, more exercise will only burn precious lean muscle not fat.

So, in the end you may end up looking a bit smaller overall, but you will still have the same soft spots and trouble areas as before.

Just because you may not have much of an appetite does not mean your body is burning belly fat.

It's the exact opposite. You don't have an appetite because your metabolism is slow and your body is holding onto calories by storing them as fat.

And guess where most of that fat is stored? That's right...all around your stomach covering your abs in a big layer of fat.

Try this instead: If you are eating 3 or fewer meals per day on average your metabolism is stuck and you will not lose stomach fat. Divide your typical daily food intake into 5-6 meals instead. Think of it this way. Imagine putting all of the food you typically consume each day on a table. Now, divide all the food up into 5-6 meals. These meals are much smaller which will:

  • allow you to eat more frequently
  • boost your metabolism
  • allow your more efficient metabolism to burn calories rather than store them as fat
  • elevate your energy level
  • not make you feel full and lethargic after eating

This is a huge key to getting your body to shift toward using more fatty acids for energy which helps result in abdominal fat loss.

STOP: doing too much cardio

If you perform cardio 5 or more days per week in your "fat burning zone" because you have been led to believe that this is the most effective

way to lose belly fat, then you are what I call a "cardioholic".

Doing this much cardio while neglecting other more important components never results in losing stomach fat.

It does help you burn muscle, water and glycogen (carbohydrates that have been broken down and stored for energy use) while holding onto stomach fat.

Your diet and exercise program must be spot on to burn belly fat. It doesn't matter how much cardio you do. If your diet is poor or lacking in calories or the precise nutrient ratios you just won't burn abdominal fat, period.

Lose stomach fat by doing this: Instead of doing cardio day in and day out, try performing 2-3 days of strength training. This does not mean to do crunches, thigh

machines and other exercises without breaking a sweat.

Crank up the intensity a bit, just don't overdo it. Forget doing sets of 15, 20 or 30+ reps. Take it up a notch and try a heavier set for 10 repetitions and feel the difference.

Don't be afraid of lifting a bit heavier. You will not get "bulky" muscles no matter what you may have heard. That is a myth.

START: strength training

When it comes to losing abdominal fat cardio is not the most effective way to do it.

The key that almost everyone misses or does completely wrong is strength training.

Strength training is what triggers fat loss not cardio. Cardio should only be used as an adjunct to your strength training program and not the other way around. Look at all the cardioholics at your gym. Have any of them siginifcantly gotten a leaner, tightly toned body with well-defined muscular definition doing all that cardio? No way.

Try this to burn belly fat:

  • perform strength training 2-3 times per week on non-consecutive days
  • crank up the intensity without going overboard
  • make sure you are eating enough nutritous foods to promote recovery from training
  • use cardio 3 times per week on off days to help burn additional calories and fat

Key Point: You may not want to look like a bodybuilder or fitness model, but I want you to think about this.

Bodybuilders and fitness models are some of the leanest people you will ever see. They consistently achieve single-digit bodyfat levels when preparing for competition.

Do you really think any of them resort to crash diets and neglect strength training to get into contest shape?

They know that crash diets and neglecting strength training will only prevent them from getting their leanest. They know the secret to getting

really lean is by consuming a diet rich in nutrients and performing strength training to maintain muscle since muscle burns fat.

STOP: training body parts

Abdominal fat loss is much more difficult when you train body parts. Training body parts does not significantly boost your metabolism to burn belly fat. It makes it much more difficult.

You are not a bodybuilder so why train like one? If you want to really lose belly fat before the holidays learn more.

Why You Should Take Vitamins

Vitamin benefits are many but not with all brands and types of vitamins. The main reason vitamin benefits are so vital is mainly because in the past it become an outbreak of vitamin incomplete foods. Although a lot people has been ongoing on their debate about the value of taking vitamins supplements. Even though some recent studies suggest that taking too much multivitamins can cause serious health problems. However, still there is one vitamin which is usually regarded as a healthy supplement.

The most useful vitamins of all are vitamin C. From the days of scurvy, people have recognized its importance. Vitamin C has many benefits you may already be aware of including a essential role in the production of collagen, an ability to help the healing of wounds, has an ability to boost your immune system, protects artery linings, and it may help in the prevention of cataracts. It is also reduce the colds, cut down on dangerous free radical and help in any other ways.

I see everywhere more and more vitamins benefit is being touted by company after company. We all know we need vitamins, but we don't think about getting them from our foods. We would rather pop a vitamin pill for several reasons in the morning and then eat junk for the whole day. I realized that the vitamin benefits that I need come from what I eat each day and that eating these food makes me feel better than any pill ever I have.

You will become sick and weak if you don't take vitamins in your body because nowadays there are a lot of vitamins with great vitamins benefits. Even though there are diseases that can occur from a simple vitamin insufficiency don't be scared, it doesn't mean that you have to run out to buy a vitamin supplements to stay healthy. All you need to do to help you is to eat better, but there are problems if you take too much. You should talk to your doctor if you really want a vitamin benefits and you think you need the help of a supplement.

Even so, experts still don't quite agree on how much vitamin C you should get and what is the best way to take it. Is natural vitamin C important, or can you get supplements with a synthetic kind? Should you get all of it from food, or should you get some of it from pills as well? Most of all, is there any truth to the claims that taking huge amounts of vitamin C can help you fight off infections? Does it really help, or does it actually just put added strain on your system which has to get rid of all of the excess vitamins?

People really don't know if it is really helps to take many times the US RDA of vitamin C. However, it seems not to harm the body and there is no such thing as a serious vitamin C overdose. If you take too much of the vitamin, it is simply flushed out of your system. Seldom, it can give you an upset stomach, but that is about it. You certainly will not have to be rushed to the hospital!

Here this is evidence that it does really help in a variety of unexpected ways, aiding the treatment of anything from acne to cancer. In fact, vitamin C acne cream is now an ordinary product at many health food stores and pharmacies. And you should usually use a caution when taking high dose vitamins; in this case you can rest at ease. Vitamin C can not hurt you, and they help you a lot with different physical processes. Sill there is an open question in your mind how much they help?

Recently I did a series of article regarding with vitamin benefits, and I was surprised to see what can happen if you take too much or getting enough vitamins. It would almost seem like it is too hard to get right in the middle, but it is easier than you might think. All you need to do is to eat balanced and healthy meals, so that you are going to get what you need. If you think there is a problem, you can't decide on your own that you need extra vitamin D or B. Your doctor is the best source where you can find your vitamin information.

You tend to go to a store like GNC and be beaten with information about the vitamin benefits that you are missing. You should know that you probably don't know. It's just like Gatorade. I can't stand the bits and pieces, but it was not made for me. There are great vitamin benefits that can come from things like this, and Gatorade is made to re-hydrate, but rarely does the average person get so dehydrated that they need this. Water would work just fine. Athletes and those with very labor-intensive jobs are the ones who should be drinking it. They might also get more vitamin benefits from a supplement and you might just waste your money.

Complete vitamin mineral supplementation is the only effective way to get the full vitamin benefits and ensure that all the essential interactions take place, and this is why a high-quality multi vitamin is necessary. Vitamins are vital to sustain life and we must get them from our natural foods or dietary supplements. The nutrition they provide help people feel better, more energetic and assist the body with normal functions. Vitamins and minerals are needed for our growth, vitality and well-being.

Lose Body Fat By Using This Awesome Technique

It is unfortunate that so many people get frustrated when the try to lose body fat and cannot succeed. All to often then give up and go back to their old habits.

Have you ever fallen into this category? Maybe you have successfully been able to lose body fat only to gain it all back again and then some.

If you ever feel like you cannot lose body fat no matter what you try to do, then pay special attention to the concepts in this article. Let's take a look at one of the biggest reasons so many people struggle to lose body fat once and for all.

The Biggest Reason Why People Have Trouble Trying to Lose Body Fat

The reason is this: they eat too many calories.

Sounds incredibly simple doesn't it? In fact you have probably heard this before somewhere. It is basic, simple, but is the biggest reason that people have trouble trying to lose body fat.

They do not have trouble because they have some physiological disorder, not because they aren't doing enough cardio, not because they were born with bad genes, not because they are "failures," not because they have no will power, just simply because they take in too many calories.

Unfortunately this message gets lost in the media where everyone in the magazines or newspaper seems to have some newly discovered "miracle" concept about why you haven't been able to lose body fat. Before you know it you are thinking it is because of a hundred different reasons and your head is spinning because you are so confused.

This leads us into our next major point.

The Biggest Reason Why We Eat Too Many Calories

The reason is this: too much processed food.

Have you ever looked at the nutritional info of a pre packaged muffin? One of these muffins might be small in size but has 450-600 calories! Foods like this simply do you make you feel full. You could eat three or four and be hungry again an hour later. The same holds true for other processed foods like bagels, donuts, potato chips, fast food, soda, and other foods that are not filling but are extremely calorie dense.

If you diet consists of a lot of foods that fit this description then I can almost guarantee that you have excess body fat that you want to lose.

Trying to simply consume less processed food than you normally do is not the best answer either. If you purposely try to eat the same foods but less of them then you will be taking in less calories but will not feel full.

An Excellent Solution to This Problem

Trying cutting out processed foods and replacing them with lots of fruits, vegetables, and lean proteins. These foods are all very filling but are not overly calorie dense.

These foods are great for helping you lose body fat simply because you can eat until you feel full without having to worry about taking all the excess calories from the bad foods you may have eaten before.

You see, trying to lose body fat is simply a matter of taking in less calories from calorie dense foods and replacing them with more calories from vegetables, fruits, and lean proteins. You can still throw in a cheat meal each week and you will still be on track to getting leaner.

Another excellent way to help with this process is to begin an exercise program that is specifically geared towards helping you lose body fat. This does not involve doing hours of endless cardio and using the strength training machines. The most efficient and effective exercise program to lose body fat is in fact quite different. If you want to learn more, stop by the website listed below.

This article has described the main reason that so many people struggle to lose body fat. When you take the time to truly absorb this information and permanently give up on the "miracle" quick fixes, you will be on the road to success. Good luck!

Eat Right And Reveal That Six Pack

Nutrition plays a major role in obtaining six-pack abs. Plain and simple if you don't have junk around the house, you're less likely to eat junk. And, if all you have is healthy food around the house, you're forced to make smart choices. Basically, it all starts with making smart choices and avoiding temptations when you want to get rid of that stubborn belly fat that is blocking your abdominal muscles.

Get enough quality protein daily. Protein has a high thermic effect so you burn calories digesting it. Plus it's a building block for maintaining and building lean muscle, which is an important factor for controlling your metabolism. Include whole eggs in your diet because they are one of nature's richest sources of nutrients (and remember, they increase your GOOD cholesterol so stop fearing them). Experiment with buffalo, ostrich, venison, and other "exotic" lean meats. These are some of the healthiest meats around, and if you're serious about a lean healthy body, these types of meats are much better for you than the mass produced, hormone-pumped beef and pork that's sold at most grocery stores.

Don't forget that you need carbs that are high in fiber like vegetables, fruits, and unrefined grains. Avoid all refined sugars and refined grains these wreck havoc on your metabolism and keep you fat. Remember, fiber helps to fill you up and it slows down the glycemic response of the foods you eat, all beneficial for getting and staying lean.

Also not eating enough fat can have a negative affect on hormone levels in your body as well as causing more cravings. Eat healthy fats like nuts and seeds, nut butters, avocados, olive oil, organic meats and eggs, coconuts and virgin coconut oil. Avoid artificial trans fats from margarines, shortening, and hydrogenated oils that are in most processed foods.

So treat your body like a temple because, "You are what you eat from your head down to your feet."

What If You Could Lose 10 Pounds Before Christmas?

What if you could lose 10 pounds before Christmas? What if I could show you how to lose up to 20 pounds in the next 22 days, would that get your attention?

Oh, did I forget to mention you can do this with no pills, no liquid diets and no fad diets? The secret, my friend is about to be revealed to you, and it is because of new metabolic discovery.

First of all, let's establish something- your weight is result of your eating habits; you are eating the wrong foods at the wrong time and in the wrong amounts. What if we could show you a system of eating which was so different from anything else you've ever seen, that you'll notice a change in your body in just 11 Days from today?

Most diets are based on the premise that we need to cut calories, or cut types of calories in order to manipulate a change in our body. Personally, I have done both types of diets and no real tangible result.

I stayed on the 1200 calories for about, well a day or so. I got really hungry, I mean like wild grizzly bear hungry, really who can last on a couple of slices of apples or a piece of cheese for three to four hours?

Then came the Atkins diet, I have never been so miserable in all my life. I felt like someone had hotwired my brain and somehow there was a short- I couldn't complete a thought let alone a sentence! Ever walk into a room and forget why you are there? The side effects were not worth it. I did have minimal results with the Body4Life program, but honestly I couldn't choke down another protein shake to save my life- yuck!

The emerging data is showing that the science of weight loss has to do with what we eat, when we eat and how often we eat it. If you think about the 1200 calories a day diet, the premise for the weight loss is as follows: you eat 1200 and the body will burn 1800 calories so you create a 600 calorie deficit. This may work for a while however, eventually you hit what is called a "plateau", or as I like to refer to, "I'm hungry and I can't lose weight!" What science is discovering is your body actually adjusts its calorie burn to what you are eating, so to get more results you have to cut more calories- I don't know about you, but I do enjoy eating more than a saltine cracker and a Yoplait lite per day.

The key for me is having an eating system, not a diet. A diet implies temporary in my mind, and eventually when you go off the diet (or diet pills for that matter) you return to your formative state which is why you started the darn thing in the first place. As a matter of fact, after I stopped most diets I gained back more!! With an eating system it feels to me like it is more of a lifestyle change that I can keep up with, especially because I get to keep eating the kinds of foods I like.

What the science is also showing is that food is an accelerator or inhibitor to fat burning or storage. The chemical makeup of what you eat can either make or break you- that would have been useful information about say, 20 years ago!! So just think, you could literally lost 10 or more pounds by Christmas just by changing what you eat!

I have found the system and I will share it with you, take a look for yourself!

Here is the scoop, why wait until New Years Eve to start setting your goals and resolutions to lose weight, start now and let the new slim, sexy you enjoy the Holidays in a little black dress (or suit, or Speedos whatever men like to wear to show off!)

Really, stop the diet madness. Get real and lose 10 (or more) pounds before the Christmas Holiday! You deserve it!

Keeping Your Fuel Clean and Your Engine Well-Tuned Will Deliver More Power and Miles

Although obesity rates have leveled off, we, as a society have still not learned that what we eat is fuel for our bodies. Our nutritional "habit-patterns" are deplorable. Americans continue to imbibe themselves with junk, adulterated, processed foods, high fat, high sugar foods, fast foods and generally poor nutrition.

On top of it, when it comes to "losing weight", most people will turn to nutritionally limited and/or calorie restricted diets!

Learn that what goes into your body is essentially the same as what goes into your car or truck. FUEL!

Would you put kerosene into your vehicle? It would be able to run and rather smoothly. But what would the results be? There would be poor engine performance, engine wear at a much faster rate, continual breakdown and problems, and, a much shorter life-span for the engine.

Your body is not that much different. Poor nutrition, as we have begun to see with the explosion of chronic conditions, results in poor performance (a lot of which goes un-noticed, internally), constant problems and generally functioning at less than optimum. In short, eating poorly results in ruining your health, and, quality and quantity of life in the long run.

Proper nutrition is just so easy and simple it's laughable. But it continues to evade people...and this evasion is done knowingly. With excuses, but knowingly. You'd have to live in a third-world country to NOT know what proper and good nutrition is; the information about it is so readily available, everywhere from the internet to books to magazines.

It all comes down to CHOICE. If Americans continue to make poor nutritional choices, they will continue to become engrained "habit-patterns" and they will continue to be plagued by chronic conditions.

The other habit-pattern that gets factored into the equation is exercise. Again, availability of information is widespread, and it all comes down to CHOICE. That old saying, "if you don't use it, you lose it" is so very true. Maintaining physical activity levels, i.e., exercise on a regular (3-4X each week) basis goes a long way in keeping you healthy. The facts on this have been in myriads of studies for, again, a long time now.

Quite frankly, it would appear that to choose poor nutrition and avoid regular exercise is "self-abuse". Why do things that are going to be detrimental to you body and health?! This is the quintessential question that many in the fitness and nutrition professions have been asking for decades. It's truly amazing the health situations people get themselves into because of their CHOICES to eat garbage and not exercise.

Granted, these are only two factors in the equation of good health, but they are, in my professional opinion, two of the most important, and, quite bluntly, two of the easiest to achieve. Yes, I understand that behavior issue exist concerning food for some people, but for the most part, it is not that difficult, it is a choice.

Let's run through a quick "program", just for the heck of it.

Breakfast: 1 cup of whole grain oatmeal with soy or skim milk, whole wheat toast with peanut butter, 12 ounces of water, 1 cup of coffee/tea.

Lunch: tossed salad with egg OR lean meat sandwich on whole grain bread with lettuce and tomatoes OR low sodium/fat soup; 12 ounces water.

After-work fitness: Hit the fitness center for a full-body circuit training set, 2 days each week and on the alternate days, 3 days each week, do 30 minutes of cardiovascular/aerobics in your target heart zone.

No fitness center? Hit the road! Walking that is. Get out there for 60 minutes and pump those arms. Do body weight strength training: push-ups, the plank, pull-ups, chair dips, etc. Use the same schedule as above.

Dinner: Keep it real. Lean, whole meats with whole rice/grains or whole potatoes, veggies, salad, water and only do desert 3X each week.

Don't forget to add in a multi-vitamin, multi-mineral, whole green foods supplement each day.

WOW! That took all of 13 minutes to pound out on the key board! And it will take as little time to make it a part of your daily "habit-patterns".

Is it all worth it? That's another CHOICE. The way I look at it is, you have no rewind button in life. It's a one-way ride. Make the best of it with optimum performance and optimum health for optimum quality and quantity of life!...or not. The choice is yours.

Sweeten Your Life Without The Guilt

Almost a century ago, medical and nutrition experts began searching for substances that can duplicate the sweetness of sugar but without the consequential amounts of calories. And so today, amid the cheers from lovers of soft drinks, candies, and pastries, substitutes for sugar have been in steady use. Everyone who has a sweet tooth can now indulge his or her craving for anything that can tickle the taste buds without worrying about the waistline.

The arrival of artificial sweeteners like aspartame, saccharin and acesulfame took away everybody's guilt about satisfying the sweet appetite. True enough, in a few years after the introduction of these synthetic sweeteners, these substances have become the popular choice for coffee and juice drinkers; snack manufacturers even make it a point to highlight the fact that their products only use artificial sweeteners instead of real sugar, as if the latter were a sinful ingredient.

Indeed, the good thing about artificial sweeteners is that they can provide the same taste that sugar can bring, but due to a unique molecular composition in them, they do not bring in additional calories into one's diet. And to top it all, since artificial sweeteners do not have the same chemical structure as sugar, they do not cause the same problems that are commonly linked to sugar.

Take the case of tooth decay. When you eat stuff that is rich in sugar, a certain bacteria inside your mouth builds up. These bacteria eventually release acids that can erode the enamel that protects your teeth, resulting to tooth decay. In the case of artificial sweeteners, the growth of these bacteria is not stimulated; so even if you indulge in food made with artificial sweeteners, you will have a significantly lower risk of tooth decay.

In another story, aspartame, saccharin and acesulfame can also be considered as a blessing for people who are suffering from diabetes. You see, sugar has been found to drastically induce blood sugar fluctuation in people with diabetes; while synthetic sweeteners hardly affect blood sugar levels. In short, these new sweeteners can allow even people with diabetes to continue enjoying beverages and desserts without aggravating their condition.

However, all these hype about artificial sweeteners have come under fire when it comes to weight gain. Despite the considerable lack in or absence of calories, these sweeteners have been pinpointed as one of the contributing factors in obesity here in America. Studies have shown that since the introduction of substances like aspartame, saccharin, and acesulfame, people have been getting fatter and heavier. In fact, nutrition experts have revealed that people who use these sweeteners outweigh people who use plain sugar by around two pounds on the average.

So what could be the problem? Later findings show that a sweet lover's habits, and not the artificial sweeteners, are the main cause in making him or her fat. It appears that people tend to use both regular sugar and synthetic sweeteners in their diet. Users of synthetic sweeteners think that they save a lot on calories, and so they reward themselves by using real sugar every now and then. The bottom line is that the consumption of both regular and synthetic sweeteners has been on the rise, which means caloric intake has also increased.

Apart from this, consumers should also consider other ingredients in their food that can make them gain unnecessary weight. For instance, even if you use aspartame for your cake, the chocolate, the eggs, and the flour you used for the cake can still give you the bulge. Always remember that being sugar-free is not always the same as calorie-free.

Artificial sweeteners can help you attain a more ideal weight only if you know how to use these substances properly. Meanwhile, to fight off all the extra weight caused by indulging in sweets, you can use products that can increase your metabolic rate. To lose unwanted pounds, you can complement regular exercise with products like Zyroxin.

Vegan Fats Of Life - Part 2

Now that we've covered the importance of Essential Fatty Acids in the vegan diet, let's switch gears for a second. Remember when we said there was a big difference between the fats our ancestors ate and the fats most people eat today?

Let's begin with an analogy...

Let's Play Jump Rope

Imagine you and a friend are holding either end of a jump rope (hey, who says we have to grow up?). In order for it to work properly, you let it dangle loosely between you -- now we can have some fun! But if you pull it taut, the fun is over.

This analogy will serve to create a picture in your mind as we further discuss fats.

All fat molecules are composed of carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen atoms. The carbon atoms of fatty acids hold together in a chain-like fashion. These oxygen/carbon chains can attach hydrogen to them at specific points (called receptor points).

Saturated Fats

When each place that can possibly hold a hydrogen atom is filled they are called "saturated". They're full. They don't have room for even one more.

These saturated fats are hard fats. The jump rope has been pulled taut...tight and hard. These are fats which are solid at room temperature, such as those found in meat, butter, cheese, and sour cream. Fortunately for us Vegans, we don't touch the stuff! But does this mean your diet is free from saturated fats? Not necessarily...

Saturated fats can be found in vegan food too, including coconut products*, palm oil and tropical oils. And for those who think eating margarine is okay, think again. Margarine is hydrogenated (which we'll discuss below) and this hydrogenation process actually converts the fats to something that ACTS like saturated fats in the body. So if you're eating any foods which contain hydrogenated oils, you're ingesting the very saturated fats you're trying to avoid by eating Vegan in the first place! Oy!

When your diet is high in saturated fats or hydrogenated oils, these fats tend to clump together in the body and form deposits. This is because, just as they are hard at room temperature, they are also hard at body temperature. They can lodge in the cells, organs, and blood vessels. This can lead to many health problems including obesity, heart disease, and breast and colon cancer.

* Recent research suggests that coconut oil is a unique medium-chain saturated fat that may actually provide your body with energy versus clogging your arteries. Please do your own research and come to your own conclusions. :O)

Unsaturated Fats

Unsaturated fats have at least two carbon atoms that are next to each other which are not attached to hydrogen atoms. This allows it to bend, leaving the rest of the chain to loosely rotate around this kink. Remember our tightened jump rope, saturated fat? Now, as an unsaturated fat that jump rope is getting less taut and more free to move.

When you ingest unsaturated fats, they actually replace the saturated fats in your body.

There are two kinds of these unsaturated fats. One is monosaturated and one is polyunsaturated. Let's look at these two unsaturated fats a little more closely...

When at least two pairs of receptor points are empty (meaning they do not have hydrogen attached), they are called monosaturated fats, like the kind found in olive oil. When at least two or more pairs of receptor points are empty, those molecules are called polyunsaturated fats. Our jump rope is loose and free to move about - wheeeeeeeeee!!

But not all polyunsaturated fats are equal. Some, like the kind found in safflower and canola oil, should be used sparingly, if at all. The best polyunsaturates are the kind that ALSO includes Essential Fatty Acids.

Flax Seed Prevention

While you are at the prime of your life, it would probably be hard to imagine the ensuing golden years and the onset of health care concerns that often come along with it. However, given our hurried lifestyles amidst unhealthy diets, it is endemic for chronic diseases to already manifest even at a younger age. Though we can not stop aging from taking its toll on our bodies, we can try to prevent diseases from taking the best years of our lives. And how is this possible? The regular intake of flax seed oilor milled flax seed is the key to this pursuit.

Flax seed oil is enriched with the health benefits of Omega 3, a chain of the essential fatty acid group that is known for its blood pressure lowering properties leading to the prevention of cardiovascular ailments. Apart from that, the Omega 3 in flax seed oil enhances many of the bodily functions including metabolism, hormonal excretion, digestive function, boosting physical energy, and increasing mental stamina.

Complementing the therapeutic benefits of Omega 3 is the lignan that is abundant with every dose of flax seed. Lignans bring in antioxidants into the bloodstream to buffer the harmful action of free radicals on cellular functions that are responsible for the onset of diabetes mellitus and the mutation of bodily cells into tumors or cancerous cells. Flax seed is pure nutrition inside and out. It keeps the flax seed oil in its nutty goodness of its husk where dietary fibers and nutrients are kept fresh and pure.

Among the top ten leading causes of death in the United States, heart disease, cancer, stroke, and diabetes mellitus are the forerunners. Chronic diseases account for 70% of the deaths in the United States as well as 70% of total health care expenditures. In view of the severity, costs, and prevalence of these killer diseases, you should seriously consider a personal chronic disease management and prevention scheme. And what better way to start than by supplementing your diet with measured quantities of flax seed oilor milled flax seedregularly. Do not wait any longer; your health depends on it.

Nutrients in Cheese

MILK FAT

The fat content in the cheese milk is adjusted to different levels so that cheese of different varieties containing varying levels of fat can be produced. Cheese, when it is fresh has a fat content of up to 12% level. The fat content in the ripened cheeses generally range between 20 and 30%. Consumers generally prefer high fat cheeses due to high fat content and this imparts a better flavour to the cheese. The fat in the dry matter content of cheese should be at least 40-50%, like Cheddar cheese so that there will be sufficient fat in the body which contributes to the typical aroma during cheese ripening by fat breakdown or lipolysis. With increasing consumer awareness about health and ill effects of excess fats, it becomes prudent to go in for "low fat cheese varieties". However, the low fat cheese varieties should have sufficient fat so that it will be organoleptically acceptable.

One need not bother about the cholesterol content of the cheese as it is rather low varying between 0-100 mg / 100 g depending on the amount of fat present in the cheese. Hence contribution of the cheese towards the cholesterol intake would be very limited to 3-4%. Cholesterol present in the diet plays a limited role to boost the blood cholesterol. The body has its own check to decrease the cholesterol synthesis when ever the dietary cholesterol level exceeds certain limit. The digestibility coefficiency of the fat found in different varieties of cheese varies between 88-94%.

PROTEINS

The higher amount of biologically valuable proteins in the cheese adds to its nutritive value. The protein content of different varieties of cheeses generally varies between 20-35%. The protein content varies inversely with the fat content in any type of cheese. A 100 g piece of a soft cheese will meet 30-40% of the daily protein requirement of an adult human being and from 100 g of hard cheese, 40-50% can be met. During the cheese manufacture casein, the major milk protein is incorporated to 95% level in the cheese whereas most of the biologically valuable whey proteins pass into the whey portion. Hence only 75-80% of the total protein is harvested in the cheese. 4-6% of the total protein is formed by whey protein when pasteurized milk is utilized for cheese making.

The biological value of protein obtained from cheese is somewhat less than that of milk since the nutritionally superior whey proteins (containing sulphur containing amino acids) are excluded during cheese making. The PER values for cheddar cheese is 3.7 which is significantly higher than that for casein (2.5). If an index of 100 is given for the essential amino acids present in milk, then the corresponding values for the different cheese varieties varies between 91 and 97. The biological value of protein is least influenced by the enzymes utilized during the preparation of cheese making (like rennet accompanied by acid production) or employed during ripening. The Maillard reaction does not occur in the cheese making and hence all the lysine available in milk is made available in cheese. Some of the ripened cheeses show a higher PER values than that of milk from which it is prepared.

Some persons are prone to migraine attack after consuming cheese. It is assumed that such people suffer from a genetically determined lack of monoamine oxidase. Consumption of large quantities of tyramine (up to 100mg) in these patients will cause migraine.

LACTOSE AND LACTIC ACID

There is practically no lactose present in cheese and if at all it is present, in very low concentration (1-3g/100g) because most of the lactose present in milk passes into the whey and that retained in the cheese curd is converted into lactic acid during the ripening process. Hence, cheese is considered as a suitable diet for people suffering from lactose malabsorption and diabetes. Cheese usually contains both isomers L(+) and D(-) of lactic acid. During storage, the L(+) isomer is converted to D(-)isomer, the relative proportion of the type varies depending on the type of starter culture used and some other ripening factors. D(-) lactic acid can be metabolized by the human beings only to a certain extent by the a specific mitochondrial enzyme. However, the findings of the recent research shows that the toxic effect of D(-) lactic acid cannot derived for the adolescent or adult. The world health organization has not given any admissible intake for adults while for infants up to one year of age, it is recommended to provide a diet free from D(-) lactic acid.

MINERALS

100g of soft cheese will supply 30-40% of the daily calcium requirement and 15-20% of the daily phosphorous requirement. 100g of hard cheese will completely meet the daily Ca requirement and half of Phosphorous requirement. The calcium, phosphorous and magnesium in cheese are utilized as well by the body as that of milk. The changes (both physical and chemical) that occur in the cheese during the manufacture and ripening do not affect the bioavailability of calcium. The ratio of calcium and phosphorous available in the cheese is nutritionally superior and favours absorption by the body. Cheese is one of the foods that is non-carcinogenic. The wide fluctuation in the sodium content of cheese is attributed to the varying level of salt addition during the manufacture. The cheese contributes to only 5% of the total sodium intake. Nevertheless, a restricted sodium intake is often recommended to accommodate the diets of consumers under medical management suffering from hypertension.

TRACE ELEMENTS

Processed cheeses are considered as a major source of trace elements especially aluminium as these varieties contain a higher aluminium level when compared to other types. The selenium content of cheese range between 5 and 12 microgram per 100g of cheese. The nickel content varies between 2 and 34 microgram per 100g. The mercury levels in the cheese are far lower than that is permitted (0.04-0.16 microgram per 100g). Milk proteins does not affect the absorption of iron.

Carbohydrate Sensitivity Explored - Another National Epidemic

If you've ever heard someone say they are a carbohydrate addict, they probably aren't far off the mark. Carbohydrate sensitivity is a relatively new phenomenon, in terms of it being the national epidemic that it is. With the increasing consumption of packaged, refined and sweetened foods over the past decades, there has been a corresponding decrease in whole, unprocessed foods. Eating a diet consisting of heavily refined foods, which includes a high-carbohydrate content, will cause you to gain weight and eventually develop carbohydrate sensitivity.

This carbohydrate-craving trend most likely occurred from decades of misconceptions about diet as well as through misleading advertising and diet fads. Consider this: we are eating over twelve times the amount of sugar our great grandparents were consuming in the early part of the century. That's roughly equivalent to 160 pounds of sugar per person per year. Now, imagine filling up your living room or garage with those 160 of those one pound packages you buy at the grocery store-really get a mental picture of it. Let's say you don't eat as much as others, and cut it in half. It's still a hefty pile, isn't it? You see, most people have no idea that they're eating so much sugar. Much of it is hidden in processed foods as well as their beverages.

Chalk it up to a lack of relevant health education by our government, or just a lack of impetus on the part of individuals to do their own research, but whatever the cause of this health crisis, the bottom line is this. Sugar is lethal in large doses. It may not kill you the way heroin might in a single overdose, but its chronic strain on the pancreas and the body will trigger diseases that will most certainly destroy you. Before it does that though, eaten out of moderation sugar will first cause you to become overweight.

Inside the body, carbohydrates are converted to glucose (sugar). Translated, that means carbohydrates equal sugar, and for those of you who are already overweight, those complex carbohydrates will also be stored as fat. This is called carbohydrate sensitivity. I know-- it's not fair! But here are the facts: your body isn't supposed to eat all the sweet stuff you've put into it, and if you are sensitive to carbs, it means your body has gotten out of whack.

What is Carbohydrate Sensitivity?

Carbohydrate sensitivity is connected to the pancreas and insulin production, but I'll get to that a little later. Here's a number to shake you up. Did you know that up to 40% of a person's carbohydrate intake during a meal can be converted and stored as fat? Multiply that times a few meals a day, and you see the outcome: a bulging waistline. The problem with a high-carbohydrate diet is that it's devastating to your natural metabolic processes.

This means that when you become carbohydrate sensitive, your body can no longer burn fat effectively, and those moderate to low-glycemic and complex carbohydrates get stored as fat. Many people walk around completely unaware that they're metabolically challenged from their carbohydrate intake. I know that I was completely ignorant for years, which was at least partly due to my misconception that I had to be overweight to be carbohydrate sensitive. Wrong. I was just extremely active and things looked all right on the outside. Slowly but surely, I'd reach for the carb every time over the protein.

I was carbohydrate addicted. The beginning of my real education on the subject and my change in diet was when I learned about insulin in the body and a low-glycemic approach to eating.

Insulin Loves Glucose

Before you start yawning and think, oh boy, now it's getting technical and here's where I sign off, please don't! Learning about the glucose-insulin response just might change your life.

Your hormone insulin really loves glucose. Inside your body, glucose is a byproduct of carbohydrate breakdown. When you eat carbohydrates, your body breaks it down into a form of sugar called glucose. Now I'll keep it simple here for the layman.

Insulin is like an escort. It escorts the sugar into your muscle cells, where it's then used to produce energy. We need energy, so we can thank both insulin and glucose for their terrific partnership-that is, when they have a normal relationship.

Now, complex carbohydrates make the insulin release more slowly from the pancreas, which is what you want. You want a slow courtship of insulin and glucose. Let's say you eat simple sugars or highly processed foods containing sugar. Those carbohydrates break down very fast into glucose. What happens then is that insulin levels rise rapidly in order to escort more glucose into the tissues and your bloodstream is quickly bombarded with excess insulin. If you didn't understand how it works before this, can you see how that this kind of chronic situation in the body will absolutely lead to diabetes? Remember, diabetes spares no one when it comes to diet and lifestyle induced diabetes.

Your body can normally handle occasional overloads of simple carbohydrates and store them as extra glucose, rather than fat. But many people have abused their systems for so long-through simply eating too many refined carbohydrates or living with other problematic factors such as chronic stress-that their bodies start to work against nature. Essentially, their once normal and healthy metabolism begins to malfunction, and their compromised bodies store carbohydrates as fat instead of burning glucose for energy.

Once you've become carbohydrate sensitive it tends to go downhill. Even a balanced meal of chicken or pork, some potatoes or bread, and a nice array of vegetables don't get metabolized correctly. This kind of meal in and of itself shouldn't be fattening. However, you can become so sensitive to the bread and the potatoes in your meal that you will deposit even the carbohydrates and protein as body fat. And if you eat a piece of bread or a small plate of pasta, your body will send your insulin levels soaring, reacting as strongly as if you had eaten a piece of cake.

To add insult to injury, your intake of sugar also raises your cholesterol. Now, you can understand why so many people struggle to lose weight and promote better health, even when they switch to a "healthier" diet.

Other Factors Triggering Carbohydrate Sensitivity

Lack of exercise

Glucose is stored in the muscles, and if you have a low percentage of muscle and a high percentage of fat-where can glucose go? One of the most important things you can do to overcome this sensitivity is to change your body composition by exercising. This will preserve and enhance lean muscle mass which will help lower your body fat and raise your metabolism.

Chronic Stress

Our bodies deal with stress by raising cortisol levels, a hormone secreted from our adrenal glands. This, in turn, triggers the release of glucose from its "storage "depots" and into the bloodstream. Insulin levels also increase so glucose (which you remember is dearly loved by insulin) can be escorted from the blood to those working muscles that need it for energy.

But when stress is constant, high glucose and insulin are also constant. Being under acute stress is the same as if you had eaten a piece of cake--and experiencing chronic anxiety and stress is like eating cake all day long. The result is insulin resistance inside the insulin receptors on the cells-they simply don't recognize insulin anymore. The escort glucose might as well be an imposter now.

To add insult to injury even further, stress spikes insulin levels as if we ate the cake, and then we do eat cake--giving the insulin response system a double whammy.

Serotonin Hormone

Serotonin, one of your brain's central neurotransmitters, is involved in regulating your appetite and hunger. If you have too little serotonin, you will crave carbohydrates and feel depressed. Increasing your serotonin blunts your yen for carbohydrates. Serotonin is also a mood regulator and increases your sense of well-being. Not surprisingly, when this hormone is stimulated you eat less, gain less, and burn more calories.

How Do You Know if You're Carbohydrate Sensitive?

If you're a woman, the odds are you'll become carbohydrate sensitive sooner and more easily than a man will. While men tend to use carbohydrates for energy, women tend to store them as fat. This is especially true as women age. Menopausal women tend to be more prone: they don't have enough estrogen stores to deal with cortisol and its tendency to make the body store fat. It's just female biology.

Factors That Might Indicate Carbohydrate Sensitivity

--You crave carbohydrates
--You are overweight or obese
--You don't exercise very much or at all
--You're a woman and over forty
--You suffer from chronic or bouts of depression and compulsive overeating (serotonin or other neurotransmitter imbalance, possibly)
--You have been over-stressed for some time
--You are hormonally challenged and under a doctor's care
--You react negatively to eating sugar, i.e., you become tired, groggy, and your mental response becomes sluggish
--You reach for carbohydrates over protein most or all of the time
--Your diet doesn't consist mostly of whole foods, especially low to moderate glycemic foods

If you identify with the signs, consider that you might have a problem, but don't despair. I promise you can learn how to stop this heart-breaking cycle and get off the carbohydrate-sugar rollercoaster forever.

How To Get A Six Pack In Less Than 1 Year!

There are three factors that contribute to getting the ultimate set of abs. Those three factors consist of diet, cardio, and strength training your core area.

A lot of people are under the impression that they are eating healthy because they ate one salad for the whole day. That is not healthy at all. Then you have the people that eat two slices of pizza, and that's all they have the whole day and they think that it is ok because it was the only thing they had. It's not ok!

Under no circumstances should you be starving your self to lose weight, especially if what you really want is a six pack that is going to last. There is no way you can stay on a diet like that in the long run, as a result, the only thing that is going to happen is that you are going to go back to your regular eating habits and slow down your metabolism; thus, putting all that weight right back on.

On a week by week basis, you should only be losing 1-2 pounds a week. I did this by eating 6 smaller meals a day that consisted of 40 percent protein, 40 percent carbs, and 20 percent natural fats. When I first started this plan I was about 225 lbs. so I took in about 400 calories per meal. It's been about 5 months and I'm now at 185 lbs.

Furthermore, cardio is very important if you really want an awesome set of abs. Everyday, you should be doing 30 minutes of cardio, either in the morning, right when you wake up, or after you are done working out. Right after you are done with your cardio is when you want to do your ab exercises though. It is really important to note that you want to make sure that you do 30 full minutes of cardio all in one time span. Don't do 15 minutes here, and 15 minutes there. Also, make sure that you are jogging at a reasonable pace that you feel you can keep up with for 30 minutes.

You don't want to be going so fast that you are out of breath in 8 minutes. Fat needs oxygen in order to burn and if you are out of breath you aren't getting the oxygen that your body needs in order to do it's job.

The last part of the equation is strength training your core area. Crunches and sit ups, just aren't going to cut it. They'll give you an improved set of abs, but not the best set of abs that you can possibly have. I recently bought Mike Geary's book, The Truth About Six Pack Abs, and about two weeks after I started applying the principles in that book I really started to see noticeable results in my core area. I highly recommend his book, the information he shares is incredible and different than all the other junk out there.

Autor: Christopher Gibbs

With that said, I'm half way there to achieving my six pack, it's been five months, and I'm sure i'll reach my goal before 1 years time, I don't see why you couldn't do the same if you had the information I have. http://www.gotabs.info

Want to Get Rid of Belly Fat and Get Rid of Love Handles?

There are very few people I've known in this life who haven't wondered how to get rid of love handles or how to get rid of belly fat. Those of us who have love handles, also known by other colorful names like spare tire, and belly fat, not so affectionately referred to as a pot-belly, find very little to love about those handles and that belly says we've been letting ourselves go to pot.

Love handles and belly fat are basically nice ways to describe the fat that accumulates on the lower abdomen and on each side of the waist. But any way you view it, those love handles are warning signs of undesired weight gain. Yes, let's call it what it is, that belly fat is just unwanted weight. And the only way to get rid of love handles and to get rid of belly fat is to lose weight.

That means you've got to find a reliable eating plan that will both nourish your body while reducing that pot-belly and those love handles. Finding reliable weight lose information can be an absolutely discouraging endeavor since there are quite literally hundreds of weight loss plans on the market today that make all types of preposterous claims

First, find a healthy plan you intend to keep. To reduce your overall body fat and keep it off, you need to find a healthy eating plan. It's tempting, when you're trying to lose weight, to skip meals to reduce your caloric intake, but a better--and easier--way to cut calories is to find a reliable diet that fits your tastes and lifestyle; one you can adopt for life. So to prevent or reduce excess weight around the abdomen, or wherever you're genetically predisposed to deposit it, you need a healthy diet.

Compare the different diets based on the type foods you enjoy, and the ones you already know pack on the pounds now. Don't be tempted by plans offering huge weight loss over a short period of time. A plan offering fast results is not a healthy one, and you want a plan you can stick with for the rest of your life; a healthy diet that will keep the weight off.

Once you start losing body fat, you can firm up your body by exercising. The main thing to remember though is that spare tires and pot-bellies indicate too much body fat. And losing body fat is the best (read only) way to get rid of love handles and to get rid of belly fat.

If you want to lose weight then find the right diet for you, and then get up off the couch and go for a walk, take a ride on your bike, or go to the gym. When you maintain a healthy diet and institute a regular cardiovascular workout routine, your love handles and belly fat will gradually reduce without any particular special exercise to get rid of them. So, there you have it: the skinny on how to get rid of love handles and belly fat.

Kill Urges and Lose Weight Naturally! Try the Mediterranean Diet and

If you dream of the body of a Greek god or goddess, you don't have to hurl thunderbolts or battle one-eyed monsters - simply eating like the ancient idols could help you get a body that people will worship.

The Mediterranean way of eating, which is a diet that includes plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables, olive oil, fish, whole grains and red wine, can help you achieve the perfect shape. The Mediterranean weight loss diet has also been linked to a healthier heart and a longer life span. Foods with refined sugar, red meat, and fatty dairy products are rarely consumed, if ever.

Thousands of years after the powerful gods shook things up, the Mediterranean style of eating still makes great sense as a diet because you get full on large amounts of high-fiber, low fat foods that leave you feeling satiated for much longer. The fruits and vegetables eaten as part of the Mediterranean diet plan are naturally low in calories, and are chock full of antioxidants and omega-3 fatty acids, things your body needs to create new and healthy cells.

The Mediterranean diet plan permits a higher fat intake than most weight loss diets, but it's healthy fat that comes from nuts and olive oil, which are rich in beneficial monounsaturated fats, and low in unhealthy saturated fats, like those found in ice-cream, cheese or beef.

Just keep in mind that for higher calorie foods, like the olive oil, whole grains and red wing, you still have to focus on overall calorie intake and serving sizes. The key to any successful weight loss meal plan is consuming fewer calories while still feeling full.

When you feel full, it makes it a little easier to conquer cravings that a lot of people who are trying to follow a weight loss diet endure. What good is a diet if you cannot remain on it because your appetite is out of control? Before you begin any weight loss meal plan, you'll need to find a safe, effective way to eliminate your urges, cravings and appetite to overeat. Lose weight self-hypnosis is a wonderful resource to help you curb your cravings.

The average person experiences cravings and an urge to eat for two main reasons:

A. When you pair eating with any other behavior, the other behavior will trigger cravings and a compulsion to eat.

B. When you feel tension, you feel compelled to put something into your mouth for relaxation and pleasure.

Let's talk about Part "A" first. Over 70% of the population learns much more quickly and easily by seeing, rather then by hearing. Think about it: If you feel an urge to eat while watching TV, it's because your mind recorded the video image of food in your hand, and then associated that image with the image of the television. From that point, each time you watch television, your unconscious flashes the image of the food in your hand, and you get an urge.

You've actually "programmed" your unconscious to make you feel cravings and urges as a "conditioned response" to watching television. The same thing occurs when you eat in your car or while on the phone, etc.

Weight loss self-hypnosis will eliminate the conditioned responses quickly by reprogramming your unconscious mind to have it trigger unconscious images of you watching the television without eating, and that will eliminate the urge to eat. It will also give you an urge to reject food in that scenario!

But what about Part "B"? Our feelings of anxiousness are produced by our thoughts. If you think negative thoughts, you feel tense and upset. If you think happy thoughts, you feel happy and relaxed.

If you think a negative thought while you are sitting at your computer, your mind can associate that thought with the computer. Thereafter, when you sit at your computer, you have a conditioned response; your mind will flash to that negative thought and you will feel stress. Weight loss hypnosis can help you defeat these patterns almost immediately.

The techniques used in the most successful hypnosis programs are based on Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP). This technology works by using a person's existing thought processes instead of post-hypnotic suggestion.

Video weight loss self-hypnosis can program your unconscious to use negative thoughts as a trigger for soothing thoughts. So if you begin to think of something that is upsetting, your unconscious will automatically change to a relaxing thought in a millisecond. You become peaceful, so there are no feelings of tension to produce your cravings. And without an appetite to overeat, it's easy to lose weight and keep it off permanently.

Staying on a sensible diet plan, like the Mediterranean style, along with weight loss hypnosis means you can finally conquer your cravings to get the body of a Greek god or goddess.

Fad Diets - Ineffective, Dangerous

It seems like a new diet - one that will work miracles - appears every month or two. Somebody writes a book about it, sells millions of copies, goes on Oprah and becomes an instant celebrity.

The big question is, there are so many of these new diets, but where did the old ones go? The answer is simple: they've been discredited or found to be largely ineffective.

These "proven diets" are often not so proven and testing by real scientists - that can take years - usually shows they are worthless for the long term fat burning, unhealthy and even dangerous.

To make matters worse, marketing flacks grab on to new "diet wisdom" like drowning sailors grab a life raft and then proceed to drive their advertising with it until it goes out of style and the next "new diet paradigm" comes along.

Health Food, No Cholesterol, Low Fat, Anti-Oxidants, High Protein, Low Carbs - these terms have been almost worked to death and yet - by some strange twist of fate, the world is more obese than ever before! Could it be we've been sold a bill of goods?

The answer is yes and no. The real truth is everyone responds differently to different diets and all good fad diets at least have SOME redeeming characteristics.

The key is to stay educated. What may work for others may work for you too, but take it all with a grain of salt. Miracles only happen in your dreams - especially when it comes to fat burning.

There ARE new advances in diet and fitness - ones worth looking at. But don't jump in head first and be aware that, like medicines, these diets may provoke unwanted side effects or even hurt you.

Computer experts have long known not to install new software on their computers despite the many advantages it may offer until they have had time to see how it works for others. They take a wait-and-see attitude and after a year or so - after the bugs have been worked out - they think about deployment, but only if the benefits outweigh the cost.

The same should be applied to your body - a much more complicated machine. Don't run out and waste your money on the latest diet fad because somebody said so. Wait and see. Are they losing weight? Does the weight stay off over a two to three year period? Does the diet have the common "to be used with a prudent exercise program 40 minutes per day" built in? Use your head and don't be bilked.

People have had their hopes, dreams and fears played on since the beginning of time - it's not likely to stop soon. It just gets more sophisticated and reasonable sounding every year. Songs the same, however and it's up to you to filter out the good parts.

Try To Lose Unwanted Weight

Physical appearance is getting more and more important while social and career success are being firmly rooted in modern life. Nowadays a successful person is usually built around fitness in both the physical and moral aspects, a sort of a physical and moral correctness. That's why a lot of people are interested in keeping themselves thin, especially when they have to eat a lot of heavy foods in winter or any other similar situation.

The first thing to do when you are trying to lose some unwanted kilograms is to make a little research of your diet. This is the very first step you want to take. Are chips, soda and fast food your regular choices through the whole day? Do you eat enough vegetables and fruits? Although we accept that hamburgers, fries and soda is a tasty and satisfying combination, it is a deadly proposition to your health at the mean while. If you really want to keep fit, you'd better stop eating food with high calories, which provides too much energy.

It's a pitty that our body doesn't like to waste things it can use later on and energy is one of the most important things that can be stored. Eating hamburgers and chips while leading a largely sedentary lifestyle gives your body much more energy than it normally uses. This energy is not thrown away, but converted to fat and put into storage. Therefore, you must cut down on this type of food and turn to the humbler fruits and vegetables to keep hunger in check without putting your health at risk.

The second step you have to take is exercising. You now have a sound diet which makes sure your body won't get more energy than it needs, then, exercising is here to help use up energy already stored. Taking walks after meals regularly is OK, exercising half an hour per day is good, and going to a gym for an hour or so five days a week is perfect. Remember, there's no need to starve or exhaust yourself. Diet and exercising will be already enough for you to lose unwanted weight, which could also be fun with a bit of thinking and a positive attitude.

How To Lose Belly Fat - 3 Top Tips Revealed

Viagra Soft Tabs (Sildenafil)

Many people yearn for six pack abs and yet struggle to turn that desire into reality.

Are you one of them?

In this article, I want to highlight 3 proven strategies on how to lose belly fat and develop six pack abs. You don't need any fat loss pills, ab gadgets or follow any fad diets to achieve your goal of getting ripped or six pack abs, or a flat stomach. Once you do what is right, you will be showing your ripped abs in no time and be the envy of others!

Firstly, dietary habits are the sole determinant of whether you get ripped abs. Most people will never have low enough body fat for visible abs if their diet is poor. Do you know that diet is even more important than exercising if you want to lose belly fat? Unfortunately, there has been so much misleading and confusing messages in the media about what's healthy and what's not in promoting fat loss. Gimmicky diets usually limit or favour one food group such as low fat, high protein, low carb, atkins, south beach, vegetarian, cabbage soup, fasting and so forth. They tend to focus more on one macronutrient while your body needs all macronutrients, vitamins and minerals. By eliminating an entire food group, your body is deprived of what it needs to function most efficiently. It is important to eat a wholesome, natural and balanced diet as much as possible. Avoid refined (grains, flour, sugar, oil), processed foods and trans fat as these can damage your metabolism and adversely affect your hormone balance in your body.

Secondly, focus on the intensity of your workouts and on training the largest muscle groups of the body to maximize your fat burning effect. Working out large muscle groups like the legs, back and chest stimulates fat burning hormones and metabolism. Some effective exercises include squats, deadlifts, lunges, clean and press, etc. Although training small muscle groups like biceps, triceps and shoulders have certain benefits, it does not develop a lean body.

Long, steady cardio is not the best way to lose body fat and get visible six pack abs. Interval training is more effective than slow cardio routines. Due to the variety of intensity, interval training has been proven to strengthen the heart and maximize fat loss. Your metabolism remains elevated post interval workout so your body burns more calories than it would have burned during a cardio workout.

Thirdly, let's discuss about abs training. Forget about doing hundreds of crunches and sit ups. These ab exercises do not provide enough stimulus for the abs of most people who already has some training under their belt. Resistance helps to build and tone muscles. However, crunches are one of the ab exercises that provide the least amount of resistance. High resistance ab exercises such as hanging leg raises and lying leg thrusts are more effective in developing six pack abs.

Bear in mind that ab exercises do not get rid of belly fat, so don't waste too much time training your abs directly. Specific ab training should only form a small part of your workout program. Your six pack abs will not be visible if covered with fat. Focus on full body exercises which create metabolic changes that help to reduce body fat. These exercises also indirectly work the entire midsection. Combined that with a healthy, natural and wholesome diet, you will definitely get your ripped abs in the shortest time!

Lose Weight Fast - You Too Lazy? Top 10 Diet Tips Facts That Burn Fat

While it's true that many people seem to think that to lose weight fast, has to do with starving yourself or taking the newest diet pill; it's much more complex than that! Those who have tried desperately to get slim quick with these automated 'do nothing' methods will admit to their inefficient results.

The truth is, you need to eat! Even to lose weight quickly, you still need to consume a lot of food on a daily, however it's what you consume that will determine the difference between shedding fat or just adding to it! I'll tell you this: Low fat and low calorie diets don't work. Why? This method actually slows down your bodies fat burning engine, and once you lose that first bit of weight, all efforts will come to what 's known as the 'dieting plateau'. Low carb diets are also popular now, however these often come with very strict and hard to follow routines that the average person simply will not follow.

Weight loss programs usually take the 'slow and steady' approach, and you usually have to buy into meal plans, dietary supplements and again follow a routine that probably clashes with your day to day living to the point where you just give up! Isn't there anything out there that offers an accelerated fat burning diet without side-effects or crazy routines? Ehemm, actually.... there is.

Perhaps you've heard of this product that is making its way around the internet right now, and is eating up (no pun) all the competition WITHOUT the need to fill your head with insane promises or false claims. In fact, this plan boasts a very high success rate, and this is the reason for its continued growth among those that are just dying (again, no pun) to lose weight fast.

Very appropriately titled 'FatLoss4Idiots', this fat filer program takes you on a step by step of how our society eats, consumes the worst things our bodies can handle, and what the necessary course of action is to lose 9 lbs every 11 days. Yes you read that right, the average person that follows this plan actually loses more than 1.3 lbs day, but most importantly-IT'S SAFE! Not many accelerated fat burning diets offer these results without having to include its side-effects (don't you love those new commercials where the side-effects are rambled on for 10+ seconds and seem to outweigh the desired results from the pill/product?) because there are NO side-effects to this, and your weight WILL indeed stay off this time.

So? Do you already eat 3 times a day or more? Good you MUST eat, now let's focus on what you should/shouldn't be doing with those meals, and what to do before and after those meals to make sure you stay the course and achieve that slamming body you've been dying to have! Even Jenny Craig, Weight Watchers and the Atkins diet have nothing on the Fat Loss 4 Idiots plan. Why? Due to it's shear 'end results' that thousands can attest to (and that number is growing, while they are all shrinking!).

Stay the course, never give up, and don't wait another second to get your health and body to where it should be! Your future and family depend on it.

Grape Juice For Weight Loss

Weight loss can be a pretty difficult task especially if your weight is pretty far from what you would like it to be. However, with proper advice and the right amount of motivation, nothing can stand in your way.

You've probably heard that there are various things in nature that can help you lose the unwanted weight, such as green tea, vinegar, herbals and many others. But very few people actually know that they can also use grape juice for weight loss.

The good news is that grape juice has a lot of other great properties too: it's a good aphrodisiac, it helps you improve your vision, it's a great energizer, it contains C vitamin - it's sweet and tastes good. Above all of these, it helps you lose weight too!

I should not even mention how easy it is to prepare - you'll be needing 100g of grapes (a black variety is preferable), water and palm sugar (by taste). After squeezing the grapes with a juicer mix with the water and sugar and stir well.

So if it's so easy to prepare and so good for you - why not consume it daily or even more times in the same day? Why not develop a habit of drinking some in the morning and some in the afternoon? If you're going to form a habit like that, you should also go for a little exercise too - a little in the morning and a little in the afternoon also. You'll discover that you'll feel better within days, and before you know it you'll even be thinner.

Nature is full of wonderful resources such as this one and yet many people take pills to lose weight. Whenever that thought crosses your mind ever again, just think about grape juice for weight loss instead of it.

How Your Thyroid Glands Can Ruin Your Figure

If you are almost starving yourself to death and exercising yourself to exhaustion but seem to only lose a few pounds, then you might have underlying problems that prevent you from losing weight. If you have tried almost all weight loss programs imaginable and still cannot seem to find a solution to shedding those unwanted pounds, do not blame yourself and feel down. If you have honestly worked hard to lose weight but did not get the results you were seeking, you may probably have a thyroid dysfunction.

Link Between Thyroid Problems And Weight Gain

The gland that is responsible for producing hormones to boost your metabolism, among other things, is the thyroid gland. Thus, if anything happens to your thyroid, your metabolism and your weight will be greatly affected.

Unfortunately for you and me, the thyroid gland gets easily affected by almost anything you put inside your mouth and the state of environment you are in. Environmental chemicals, food allergies, lifestyle choices, stress and nutritional deficiencies all play a role in causing subtle changes in your thyroid's performance. In fact, a study has shown that toxins and chemicals, such as bromide, fluoride and chlorine, bolster thyroid hormone production, leaving you with only a few of this hormone to manage your metabolic rate - or the rate by which you burn fat.

Symptoms of Thyroid Problems

Constipation, cracked nails, cramps, decline in sexual libido, dry skin and hair, loss of hair, muscle aches, and uncontrolled weight gain. These are but a few of the symptoms of thyroid dysfunction. If you think you are displaying many of the signs mentioned, you should talk with your doctor and ask for a laboratory test to check the state of your thyroid. Since the indications of a thyroid problem are very similar to many diseases, doctors sometimes fail to recognize the disease so you can be proactive and ask your physician for laboratory tests.

Steps To Take To Manage Your Thyroid Woes

If you find out that you indeed have thyroid dysfunction, do not fret. You are not the only person who is suffering from this disease. This disorder has become so common in the US because of pollution, improper food choices and very busy and demanding lifestyle we all live in. What you have to do now is to follow the steps below to help you deal with your problem:

Step 1: Know The Cause Of The Problem And Try To Eliminate It

The first thing you should do is to determine what causes your thyroid problems and try to eliminate them. If the root of the problem is nutritional deficiencies, then you should take vitamin and mineral supplements that can help you deal with the deficiencies. If the problem is stress, then find a way to relax and rest. It is important to note that if you do not stop the cause, your thyroid dysfunction will just go on, no matter what types of medications and management steps you take.

Step 2: Be Mindful Of What You Are Eating

It is now time to take particular care of what you are eating. Do not just go on fad diets and deprive yourself of food. It will be better for your health and that of your thyroid to take a more balanced diet and eat foods that are nutritional.

Step 3: Move Your Butt

Exercise regularly. This will help reduce stress and may also help jumpstart your metabolism. Or at least, coupled with healthy eating, prevent you from getting even bigger and adding on more pounds.

Step 4: Discuss The Best Thyroid Management Approach With Your Doctor

It is wise to talk with your doctor about the best recourse in managing your problems. Ask about the safety of thyroid hormone replacement therapy and what you need to do to remedy the situation.

Step 5: Take supplements

Your thyroid needs all the help it can get to function properly. Thus, you need to take supplements that are known to help protect the thyroid, such as Vitamins D and A, selenium, fish oils and zinc.

One supplement that may be able to help you lose weight is Zyroxin. Visit the website www.Zyroxin.com to know more about how this product can help you.

Help I m Hungry! How to Cope with Cravings When You re Losing Weight

What was that noise? Your stomach growling, again? Yes, part of losing weight is feeling hungry. After all, your body has grown accustomed to feasting, and now it's time for a little fasting. So how can you beat those troublesome hunger cravings?

1. Eat regular meals and smart snacks. Make breakfast a substantial meal with lots of protein and fiber to fill you up. Eating lunch and dinner with a nutritious snack in between meals will help you stave off hunger throughout the day. Eat slowly...savor the flavor of the foods to allow your body time to signal your mind that you're full.

2. Distract yourself. There's nothing like activity to distract you from mindless grazing. Get out with your kids, run errands, visit friends, go to the library. You'll be so busy you'll forget to eat. By the time you realize you're hungry, it will be time for a meal or a mid-afternoon snack.

3. Don't think about food. You go where you focus. If you're watching a cooking show on television or thumbing through a food magazine, you're looking for trouble. Fill your mind with other subjects - write your husband a love note, plan a fun outing with your kids, put your photos in albums, anything positive to keep your mind occupied.

4. Drink water. Every time you feel hungry, drink a glass of water. It may be that you're just thirsty.

These ideas will help, but the truth is while you're limiting your calories to lose weight, you will feel hungry sometimes. The good news is you won't feel hungry forever. When you reach your fitness goal, you'll be able to eat more. But for now, don't be afraid of those hunger pangs. You will survive them to become the fit, healthy person you were meant to be.

Today's action step: Eat regular meals and 3 small snacks throughout the day. When you're hungry otherwise drink a glass of water.

Setting Your Weight Loss Goal

One of the most common health problems today is being overweight. Weight problems significantly increase the risk for heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, respiratory problems, arthritis and many others. The question naturally arises how should we lose weight. Just as important is how do we prevent gaining it back.

Well, let me allow you in on a little secret. The answer is not by dieting. Americans are obsessed with dieting. The irony here is that it is this very obsession that prevents us from maintaining a healthy, stable weight. Another little secret is that fad diets are even worse. It is true that fad diets will help you lose weight, and in some cases very quickly. In the long run they will not have a lasting effect.

It is believed that as many as 90% of those dieting will regain the weight that they lost withing a year of losing it. It is not uncommon to gain even more weight than was lost in the first place. Dieting and fad diets can cause more problems than they cure. Some of these include headaches, insomnia, constipation, water retention, heart palpitation, nervousness, irritability, and stress on the digestive system. It should be evident that dieting or fad diets alone are not the solution.

To achieve your goal of losing weight and keeping it off, you should consider a multi-faceted approach.

Dieting without sufficient stomach and digestive strength will cause overexertion, dehydration and undernourishment. This leads to further weakening of the digestive tract. When this occurs weight loss will become very difficult. It is important to remember that we depend on our digestive system to absorb and assimilate nutrition. This in turn sustains the body's normal functions. One very important way to maintain our digestive integrity is to chew our food very well. It is helpful to sit while we eat. Last by not least, we should not eat 3 hours before bed.

Another important aspect of improving our health and losing weight is to maintain regular bowel movement. This does not suggest the use of laxatives which only weaken the digestive system. Regular bowel movements can be achieved by eating food rich in fiber (whole grains), chewing well, sufficient rest and regular exercise.

This next point is a big one and contrary to what you usually hear. Drinking too much water can cause water retention. The main characteristic of fluid deficiency is dryness. Water in and of itself does not do an adequate job. This results in dehydration. When you drink too much water the kidneys will become weak. In that case they are not able to deal with the excess fluid. This alone can cause bloating which in itself will contribute to excess body weight. You should drink only when thirsty and not gulp. You should also avoid soda, drinks with artificial sweetener and power drinks.

Here is another point contrary to popular belief. You should eat 3 meals per day, not several smaller ones. You can eat as much as you wish with the following caveats. Chew your food extremely well. You will be satisfied sooner. Up to 90% of digestion will take place in your mouth, thereby taking the burden off your digestive tract. Your food should be natural, consisting mostly of whole grains, vegetables and fruit. Avoid processed and prepared foods. Do not eat at least 3 hours before bed time.

You should exercise regularly. Obviously, this provides several benefits including the increase of your body's metabolism.

Chinese herbal supplements can be a great adjunct in your weight loss program. The good ones are all natural and do not have any serious side effects. One word of caution. There are several Chinese teas around at the moment that promise spectacular results. I have consulted with a Chinese doctor. He informs me that these teas, while harmless, provide no weight loss benefit.

There you have it. If you have a weight problem there is no time like the present. Now there are two things you have to do in order to accomplish your goals. Focus and take action.

Weight Loss Partners: Why the Journey is Easier with Two

Butch and Sundance. Thelma and Louise. Great partners aren't just handy in the movies. They serve a great purpose in real life. If you're serious about losing weight, you must find a partner or partners to hold you accountable.

The success of programs like Weight Watchers hinges on the accountability factor. Together with others, you can accomplish more than you ever could alone. After my first pregnancy, I walked with my neighbor every week. We both wanted to lose weight, so we both gave up sugar at the same time. It was wonderful to have someone to commiserate with. It felt good to know I wasn't the only one skipping desserts.

In addition to walking, I recruited my mom to join me for a spin class. She had never worked out in her life so it was totally out of her comfort zone. Having my mom as my exercise partner helped me stick with the class. I had to pick her up so I couldn't just skip a workout because of laziness or poor planning. When you work out with a partner, something amazing happens: you actually show up!

Who will your partner be? It could be a friend who wants to lose weight or even your husband. Maybe you can join a class at the gym or YMCA and recruit someone to workout weekly with you. The point is finding someone with a common goal to hold you accountable.

The journey is always easier with two. As you encourage another person to achieve his or her fitness goals, you will encourage yourself in the process!

Today's action step: Call someone today and ask him or her if they would be willing to be your accountability partner.

Lose 30 Pounds In 2 Or 3 Weeks - Is It Even Possible?

If you want to lose 30 pounds you need to understand that it's not only a physical process, it's also a mental one. In order to burn off this much weight you will need determination, commitment, and motivation. You will also need to invest a good deal of effort into this process for it to succeed.

The first step you need to take is to create a realistic time line in you plan to lose 30 pounds. If you don't choose a realistic time line you're bound to fail. It's better to succeed in the long run than to try to do so in the short run and fail.

The reason I'm writing all of this is that many people have been asking me how to lose 30 pounds. When I ask them how fast they wish to do so, they answer that they want to lose 30 pounds in 2 or 3. The moment I close my gaping mouth (due to my surprise), I ask them to sit down and explain them exactly the ramification of what they wish for.

Is it possible to lose 30 lbs in 2 -- 3 weeks?

I guess anything is possible. If you do enough exercise and basically starve yourself silly, you may get there. But the cost to your health may be higher than you believe. This is due to a number of reasons:

1. You will have to do a massive amount of exercise which may result in injury.

2. The calorie deficit you will have to create will be huge. So much so that you may lose not only fat, but also some muscle. You may be lighter on the scale, but your appearance may suffer and it will be harder to maintain your weight loss in the future with a lower muscle mass.

3. Your metabolism is bound to slow down due to the fact that you will need to eat very little. A slow metabolism is a sure way to fail to maintain your weight loss into the future. Remember that after you lose all your excess weight you have to make sure you keep it off forever. The diet you choose has a big impact on this.

I recommend giving yourself 1 month to lose 30 pounds, and that's a minimum. 2 Months is a better time period both in terms of health and chances of success.

6 Reasons Why You Should Consider Using Natural Weight Loss Pills

Did you know that in 2004, an estimated 4.8 million Americans bought bogus weight-loss supplements, patches, creams or similar products - making it the top rated scam according to the Federal Trade Commission?

That is simply because they chose wrong products and because they have not informed themselves properly. You see, people will always buy anything that has "natural" written on it.

It has become a standard today - companies will just put "natural" or "herbal" stamp onto any weight loss product, even if it is not natural at all! They will do anything to pull in more customers. That is where you come in game. You are the one who will be well informed and who will make decisions based on real facts!

When I say "natural", I mean REAL natural diet pills with real natural ingredients. Unfortunately, there are not a lot of these pills on the market. You can read more about real natural weight loss pills on our website (we have done the hard work for you, tried & tested many of them).

Here are 6 reasons why you should consider using natural weight loss supplement:

  1. They contain natural ingredients

Kind of obvious, huh? Again, I assume we are talking about real natural diet pills, and not bogus supplements... What comes from our Nature, from our Source - cannot be bad for you. Natural ingredients work better with your body.

  2. They do not contain dangerous components

Have you ever felt anxious before you tried a weight loss pill? I bet you know the feeling... Well, with natural product, you do not have to worry about dangerous ingredients because there are not any.

  3. No nasty side effects

Unlike weight loss pill that contain synthetic chemicals and that produce side effects like anxiety, nervousness, irregular heartbeats, depression, insomnia, natural diet pills do not have any side effects!

  4. Safe for long-term use

Because natural products do not have any side effects and contain no dangerous components, you can use them as long as you need them. You can stop anytime you want. You can also start using them any time you want.

  5. Medically approved

Probably one of the most important factors when it comes to natural diet pills. A diet pill that is natural will always have scientific evidence that will prove the efficacy of that diet pill. Keep in mind that majority of diet pills that are not natural do not have medical data available to public, therefore this is one of the greatest reasons why you should consider using a natural weight loss pill.

  6. Great feedback from users

On many independent websites you can read more about user experiences with natural diet pills. Go around, surf the net and you will find a lot of positive feedback. Another good reason for using them!

Now that you know the facts behind natural products, you have all the prerequisites to successfully distinguish REAL natural weight loss products from bogus and fraudulent supplements. You now have the power to choose wisely and be different from the majority of people who make bad decisions about weight loss supplements.

Did you overeat on Turkey day??

Lose weight before Christmas!

It's that time of year again when most of us (
myself included) forget about the gym, our diets,
and fitness routines and start to let ourselves
go. Yes, us men even though many won't admit it
publicly care about what we look like and yes
even a few of us go on fad diets. The number of
men who are getting plastic surgery is at an all
time high. Forget about hair transplants men are
going under the knife for a little lipo just as
fast as women.

With Thanksgiving over I know I regret just a
little all of the food that I ate! Just like many
of you I was thinking oh well, I will just start
getting back into shape with the turn of the new
year, but something came over me. When shaving
the other day I noticed that I have a small
double chin starting to form. I didn't like that.
That day when I went to work I say that on
December 22nd the annual work Christmas party was
scheduled and then there was going to be a New
Years Party at the local bar, then the dreaded
family get together scheduled for the 25th. I
started to think I want to look good at the X-mas
party and New Years Eve party. Shoot, I even want
to look good at the family dinner. I am tired of
being the butt of the joke when my family gets
together. You all know what I'm talking about boy,
it looks like someone hasn't missed any meals
lately. Family doesn't let off either, they just
keep going and going. They stick the knife in you
and start twisting it deeper and deeper. I care
about what they think but I really want the
attention of the opposite sex. I am not
embarrassed to say it but I want some of the
ladies to be looking at me at my work parties
before I have the chance to look at them! It
would be great if I asked them to dance (
especially a slow dance) and they said yes
instead of I'm a little full or I don't like this
song. Hey women aren't the only ones that want
some attention! So instead of buying a new outfit
to cover up my fat abs I am making a commitment
to lose weight and get in shape during the next
few weeks. When I walk into my office party I
WILL be turning some heads! I'm not vain just
confident that I will be able to get this extra
weight off.

So why do I have this extra boost of confidence?
Well I received an weight loss e-mail offer that
I just couldn't refuse! A friend of mine Peter (
you may have read some of the advice articles
that I have published on my site from him) tried
a new weight loss supplement and he lost over 100
pounds!

A little about Peter he also works in the
computer field working long hours and sitting all
day snacking on whatever was put in front of him.
The turning point for Peter was when we attended
a mutual friend's wedding (of course we went
together and sat and drank alone) and many people
that we grew up with him hardly recognized him.
Just then and there he asked me if he really
looked that different and when I didn't respond
fast enough he knew that he had to do something.
He went home that night and starting making
changes in his life. He did some research on
weight loss products and decided to give Proactol
a try in addition to changing his diet and
incorporating some exercise. You can see from the
pictures on my site, that he looks like a
completely different person and he says he has
more energy then he ever had. (If you want to
read more about his success, you can visit my
site by clicking the link at the end of this
weight loss article.) He was so happy with his
results that he has submitted his photos and
testimonials online at the manufactures website!!

Now back to me, I am going to give Proactol a
try and thanks to Peter I hope I am on a road to
a better body. If it wasn't for him and his
success I would have been a little skeptical
about this product and would not have even
considered taking a weight loss supplement. I
would have waited until New Years and bought
another gym membership or something. In his e-
mail he told me of his success and sent me some
pictures. He also told me that I needed to get
off my butt and get in shape and that now was the
best time to do it because the makers of Proactol
are offering a 180 day money back guarantee if I
don't lose weight! Plus they are having a 50% off
sale. I thought, I can't beat this offer, and if
you are looking to lose weight I think you should
give Proactol a try too. It doesn't look as if
we will have anything to lose except that spare
tire.

Here is just a little bit of information about
Proactol . It is a 100% natural and 100% organic
product, it is safe for long-term use and has no
clinically known side effects. Proactol is a
patented fiber complex that is a 100% natural,
100% organic fat binder made from the nutritious
cactus "Opuntia ficus-indica". Proactols natural
fiber, complex consists of two fibers a non-
soluble fiber and a soluble fiber that both work
in different ways to help you manage you weight
and improve your overall health.

I am not going to spend much time explaining what
it is made of, so if you want more information on
Proactol and its ingredients you can find the
link on my site. I will tell you that all you
need to do is take the weight loss supplement
after each meal, which doesn't seem that hard to
do or remember. I like this because with other
supplements I know you take them before you eat
and have to wait at least an hour before your
meal. I always hated that because with my
schedule I never know the exact time I'll eat and
you can believe that if I take the supplemment at
12 and hope to eat by 12:30, something will
happen and I won't go to lunch until 3!

Since Peter is my friend he has also arranged for
my readers to get a FREE toning belt (worth $80.
00) if they order Proactol through my special
link on my website. Also if you order today
through my links, you'll be able to get a
discount on some great exercise videos, and get
some free weight loss books!

I know with the help of Proactol I will be ready
for the Holiday season, will you?
